digitl Posted February 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2012 We will be in Split for one day in September. Could anyone recommend a guide for a private tour of Split and the surrounding area?
hylasgirl Posted February 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2012 If you don't get much help on here, try the Trip Advisor. We are doing a private Segway tour. It is one of the top rated tours on the Trip Advisor and I love Segways :) Good luck in your search.
digitl Posted February 10, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted February 10, 2012 Thanks. I have an enquiry posted on TA and would want to go a little further afield than Segways would allow!
cruisetheoceans Posted April 16, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2012 We booked 3 tours through Split Private Tours & Shore Excursions by Matthew (http://www.private-guides.com/guide-in-croatia/croatia-matej-dancevic/index.php) on our Mediterranean cruise in 2011: Driver-guided tour of UNESCO towns Trogir and Split, and UNESCO town Dubrovnik and Montenegro tour (the following 2 days). We had great tour guides, Matthew, Ajosa and Ilia. Our Split tour guide Matthew (matej.t.d@gmail.com) was the best guide we have had in eight consecutive European trips. We booked everything on-line and the communication was great. I highly recommend this company
giraffelt Posted April 16, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) I will second the recommendation for Private Guides by Matthew. I just booked a private tour in Kotor with Matthew. He was great to deal with via email. Most responsive tour operator I have ever dealt with. He is very accommodating and provided a long list of reference information to help in our understanding of that part of the world. Enjoy planning your trip. auburn2 Posted January 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Travel in Croatia and Montenegro I have used Private Guides Team for a small group and private tours 6 times over the past 2 1/2 years in Split ,Dubrovnik and Kotor. My first experience was with Matt. Matt is by far a 5 star guide, personable, knowledgeable, and a genuine friend the first time you meet him. He goes far beyond the typical history of an area, adding personnel life experiences of the town and country he lives in. His fellow guides, Peter in Split, MS Zorka in Dubrovnik and Llija in Kotor were all as pleasant and knowledgeable. This group really tries to make each tour unique, comfortable, safe and informative. They have a large variety of vehicles that can accommodate any size group, but from their suggestion, stick with the Mini Bus, car or van. You can get around the small roads and into great scenic spots that a large bus can not go. They have pre arranged tours or you can custom make your day. I have based my tours off from their suggestions and then generally added something I had a desire to see. Their pricing and ability to custom make my tours was a big plus, along with their patience answering my 100's of questions on costs and suggestions on which sites we could fit in a day was another factor why I hired them and would do so again. One of my favorite add on to a tour was the village of Ston, have done it twice and would do it again. Another item on my list of likes, they all seem to be able to add a little special site, a flair of the unexpected, on each tour, not listed, but amazing.
