Dolphin Excursions in Nassau or Freeport

My husband and I are going to Freeport and Nassau in December and my two nine year olds want to do a Dolphin encounter. My husband and I will go with them, but we have no desire to interact with dolphins. I'd imagine the ship's excursion would charge all of full price despite if we participate or not. Are there people outside the port who might accommodate us? Allowing husband and I to go without paying full price or can we get our own transportation and then just pay for the kids there? I've heard Balmoral Island is one of the places to see dolphins and stingrays. If we get our own transportation there couldn't the kids do both?

I can't speak to specific dolphin encounter companies, but I know that most places have a price for participants, and a lower price for observers. If you're considering a ship excursion, I would just call someone at the cruise line and ask about pricing for observers. I'm sure they wouldn't expect 9-yr-olds to go alone.
