heeb Posted June 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2015 According to Princess Cruise lines Governors Beach is being worked on and is unavailable. We are going there in Jan 2016 and want to go to that beach and only that beach. Has anyone been there recently and do they know what the future will be for Governors Beach. Also if it will be opened are there still chairs to rent?
Rare crewsweeper Posted June 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2015 Reports form March and May on this board, indicate it is still closed. I suggest to keep checking back later in the summer or mid fall and see if there are any updates. I've searched for news on the closure and can't find anything on Grand Turk news sites. CookiePie Posted June 10, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2015 Keeping my eye on this thread, as we want to go to Governor's beach beginning of July.
jlrn366419 Posted June 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2015 We went to Governors beach in May, no chair rentals, appeared abandoned. Outside showers worked and one at least one restroom worked. Beach was nice, we just put our stuff on a picnic table and enjoyed being there.

jlrn366419 Posted June 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2015 No signs on closure? Anyone else around? There were no signs indicating it was closed. There was another family there while we were there and some people stopped by to walk the beach while we were there. No chair rental, no drinks for sale. LMHC Posted June 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2015 We just returned and knew from last reports the beach was "closed." We made the 15 minute walk and swam and snorkeled there. There were about 3 or 4 other families, but other than that we had the place to ourselves which was fine with us. No chair rental or refreshments, but we brought water bottles. The men's bathroom did work and was in alright condition. Also I was pleasantly surprised to see the outside showers and foot rinses worked so that allowed us to rinse off before the walk back. For us it was a nice laid back 3 hours with beautiful water and no crowds. If you are a person that needs amenities and prefers more party or civilization then this may be a little rustic for your tastes. All shops and vending carts were boarded up. oregonjuli Posted July 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2015 We went to Governors beach last week. The showers and restrooms were open, but no snacks or rentals. We had the entire beach to ourselves. Found several conch shells. There is a shipwreck right on the beach, so not sure if that is part of why it's "closed". We talked to a local who told us that it's not open because in the summer there's only a couple of ships each week. The golf cart guy, however said, its the beach where the locals go. We had a great time!
