Hi,

we have a Nikon D 7100 and a nikon 18-300.

We will now visit alaska and southamerica/ antarctica this year and think about also buying the Sigma 50-500.

(Renting will be almost the same price then buying).

Does anybody of you have this lens and can Tell us something about the picture Quality and the speed of taking a picture during whale watching...Or during bad weather conditions?

Maybe somebody has pics made with this lens?

Thank you

Greets Janine:)

I have a D7000 with the 18-300 and purchased the 50-500 last fall. I’ll be taking it on two whale watch trips in a couple months. For the price it’s a good lens. I do find that it is slower in obtaining focus on low light days. It’s certainly not a professional level lens but it does take some nice photos. There is a learning curve with it with the "sometimes" slower focus and also the extra weight. I’m happy with it. Here are a couple I've taken with it.
