Baltimore Hotels

I need a hotel pre-cruise and since I've never been to the northeast, much less Baltimore, I have no idea where to stay.

Normally, I like to stay near the port/downtown. Is this a good idea?

I don't need a park and ride deal. Just a nice hotel with restaurants/stores within walking distance.

Thanks for any help!!!

If you don't need a park and cruise deal, start with the Inner Harbor and see what's available. There's a Sheraton, two Marriotts, a Renaissance (probably best location if you can get a deal), and the Hotel Monaco, plus others, all in the Inner Harbor area. There are restaurants, and a small mall, in the area, but not a lot of shopping. Most better places to eat are in Fells Point or Little Italy, both of which are nearby.
