Another Vatican and Colloseum tour question

So the other recent thread got me thinking....Has anyone done the tours offered by the Vatican and the Colloseum? How are they compared to hiring an out side tour company??

We booked the Museum, sisteen chapel and st peters tour on the vatican website. Same with the Colloseum, with the underground and third ring tour. Seemed like a much better deal than a private companies.....any negatives to doing it this way?

You picked the best way. Private tours would only add the transportation to those places and may or may not be just as good.

I know that the RC shore excursion to Rome may be more expensive but are there other disadvantages to choosing this option?

We are doing this precruise, so booking through our ship wAsnt an option for us.
