Traffic Issues on route to Maho

For those interested in visiting Maho beach be warned that the traffic in the area can really get backed up. We thought that we had plenty of time but the congestion on November 10th was unbelievable. There was 4 ships in port from what I was told. We actually abandond the road at the last round about as the traffic was not moving on the road between the beach and the runway. I have never seen it even close to that bad and we go often. With that said we have not visited with 4 ships in port. We ended up parking at the lot past the pharmacy and walked back but missed the plane landing. The beach was a complete zoo. Honestly more than 15 minutes would have been too much for me and I love the Maho experience.

So for those that want to go when the KLM is coming I would recommend going early if there are multiple ships in port. You can also just ask the driver to drive you to the Sonesta resort if the traffic is at a stand still and walk the few minutes to the beach. It would be a lot faster to walk than try to drive the stretch between the round a bout and Sunset Bar and Grill where the taxis generally drop people off at.
