Ba' Datz Posted August 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2014 My travel agents info says that there is a free GREEN CITY LINK BUS from the station to the port/docks (RCL) . I cannot find any information about it on the port website. It does mention a BLUE CITY LINK BUS for 1GBP but it is not clear if it goes to the RCL docks Can I get there with this or is taxi the only option? Also can it be walked with only carry on luggage? Thanks
Missus Makkem Posted August 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2014 We walk from Southampton central railway station all the time. When you leave the station you will see ships docked on the skyline, of course it depends on which dock you are aiming for but not far at all. sddsddean Posted August 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2014 City Cruise terminal (where RCI ships will almost certinly dock) is the only one that is really walkable. On this map https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Harbour+Parade&daddr=50.9009665,-1.4096385+to:Herbert+Walker+Ave&hl=en&sll=50.903696,-1.409469&sspn=0.008065,0.018861&geocode=FZPCCAMdAH_q_w%3BFeavCAMdmn3q_ymRWKYhuHZ0SDFEWwjg9JZ0eA%3BFXCuCAMda2vq_w&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=16&via=1&z=16 A is the coach station and B is the cruise terminal. When you get to West Quay Rd (by the white dot), you can walk through the Holiday Inn car park to avoid going down to the roundabout and back. The train station is at 11 o'clock from the coach station and marked with a red double arrow symbol. Your train from London will come in from the right of the map. Get out of the station on the south side and there is a path up to the the big junction. Go straight across onto the A33 and on to Southern Road (all road crossings are controlled by traffic lights, so safe). Dock Gate 10 is at the roundabout at the end of Southern Road. Fork left into Solent Rd and down to the terminal. Just watch out on Solent Rd as this is where all the trucks re supplying the ship usually park up...just be aware. John Bull Posted August 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2014 The free City Link bus service is essentially for the benefit of passengers on the Isle of Wight ferries & customers of West Quay Mall, those organisations pay the cost but it's free to anyone. I think the £1 fare was for those not using the ferry, before the Mall chipped-in. But it runs from the rail station (don't know if it stops at the coach station 1/4 mile away) past the road to City Cruise Terminal to a stop at Town Quay. So you'd save yourself only a small part of the walk. Easy enough 15 minute walk from either station to City Cruise Terminal, through Gate 8 (after cutting thro' HI carpark) from coach station or thro' Gate 10 from rail station, as Simon's post. Or grab a cab, ranks at both stations. About £5 well-spent if it's raining. ;) JB :)
