Juneau - Can you rent a car? How?

I would like to know if you can rent a car in Juneau to drive to Mendenhall Glacier. Do any of the rental places have a pick up place close to the cruise port?

What else can I drive to that is easy in Juneau?

Rent a Wreck will pick you up in the city but I thnk they charge to bring you back to the city (their office is at or near the airport). No other rental company will get you or drop you off in the city.

If you are just going to Mendenhall, it is cheaper to take the busses for $6/person each way, even with a group of 5-6.

Not sure what else is on the outskirts of Juneau you would need a car for but if you do a search for Juneau in the thread title you will get a myriad of posts to peruse and see what others have said.

We just rented a car in Juneau and drove to Mendenhal then out the " road". We stopped at a few state parks and St. Thersa Shrine. We drove all the way to the end of the road. We used the Milepost and it was very heplful. When we got off the ship we walked to the Express bus stop at the archives building on Willoughby st right off Marine Way ( its 1.50$ and you must have exact change) and caught the 8:27 bus to the airport where we rented a car. If you do this you do not want to drive back into town. There are not really any places to eat once you leave the Mendenhal area so if you drive out the road be sure to stop and bring some lunch with you. There is a Fred Myers (like super Walmart) right near the airport. You pass it on the bus. You can also stop at Glacial Gardens if you like flowers. Then we caught the 3:10 bus back to town and had plenty of time to do some shopping. Of course it all depends on what time you are in port.
