Star Clipper: Monte Carlo to Malaga (Oct 19 to Nov 2, 2013)

We are boarding the Star Clipper in Monte Carlo on October 19, 2013, bound for Barcelona and continuing on to Malaga.

We are looking for other passengers who would like to pool resources to book shore excursions.

To get the ball rolling, we contacted Spain Day Tours about the possibility of visiting Granada from the port of Motril. If enough people are interested, Spain Day Tours offers a tour for 79 Euros per person + 13 Euros per person for the Alhambra admission fee.

While we are docked in Puerto Banus, we would like to visit either Mijas or Ronda. While docked in Port Vendres, we would like to visit Collioure, a beautiful port (and a Rick Steves favorite) that we visited a decade ago.

We've been fortunate enough to sail on the Star Clipper and Star Flyer several times. If this is your first time on a clipper ship, you won't be disappointed, it's awesome.

(Because Cruise Critic does not have a Roll Call Forum for the Star Clippers cruise line, I have posted both here and in the All Other Cruise Lines Roll Call Forum.)

Hi there!! I was so excited to see someone post who will also be on this trip!! I noticed you are looking for people to share shore trips with and am a bit confused. Star Clippers has the same shore trip to the Alhambra from Motril for 90 euros. Is this not almost the same price? And we would rather take one they are sponsoring as then they are responsible to get us back lol!! But otherwise we can definitely look at your ideas. There are four of us ladies from Canada. Who is in your party? We have not taken a clipper before. Can you give us any tips ? Is the drinking water on board good? How expensive are the pops? What to wear? Thanks!!

Hi Pooky,

We are two men from San Francisco.

Because we did not receive information on the shore excusions until a few days ago, we began checking out excursions on our own, but we will probably sign up for the Granada excursion sponsered by Star Clipper.

We will probably also take the excursions to Collioure and Carcassone. We have visited both towns, and they are worth a second visit.

The drinking water onboard is good. Dress is always casual. No formal nights. It will probably be chilly when sailing at night in October. I don't recall the price of pops.

The clipper ships are all about the sailing, not the cuisine or the gambling or the entertainment. You are far more engaged with the sea than you are on a large motorized cruise ship, and the wind in the Mediterranean should be good this time of year as winter approaches.
