Dumb Question...Galveston Hotels

First to admit that although we have cruised from Galveston we know very little about it. Considering a cruise next summer with a 9 year old grandchild.

Would like information about hotels that would allow us easy access (local bus?) to the attractions. Suggested attractions? What are the areas we should consider. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

We stayed at hotel Galvez last year when we cruised out of Galveston with our 4 and 9 year olds. They have an amazing pool, it's right by Pleasure Pier which looks fun, but we did not go. We took a shuttle to the port for departure and back to the hotel after cruising. Staff was great there.

It's right on the beach, and although we did not swim in the ocean there, we took the girls for a walk along the shore and they loved it.
