palma and barcelona definately use the buses and get a good map although the reception desk will have a map availably to pick up from the desk on the day. in barcelona its easy to use the hop on hop off bus to get to the sagada familia (spelling?) cathedral, parc guel, spanish village etc also you can use the subway trains but be careful of your valuables. What ship are you on and when are you going?

Marseille - short taxi ride to old port which is lovely to wander around. Train station nearby if you want to venture further afield.

Palma - can just get normal bus, which stops at port, into centre very easily.

Barcelona - as well as doing the sagrada and parc guell we took the cable car up Montjuic so plenty of options here to do on your own.

Loved Valencia and can't wait to return for a city break. We found it easy to DIY. It's a few yrs ago but seem to remember we caught a bus to the centre, spent some time in the old part then did the hop on hop bus which took you over to the ultra modern area. Fascinating.
