Hi,

We are going to rent cars from each island and I was thinking of bringing my own Garmin GPS to keep the cost down on the rentals. Is this a good idea?who takes their own gps.Do the gps on cell phones work good for getting around on the islands?

I took my Garmin GPS to Hawaii about 3 years ago and it worked fine. Naturally, you've got to make sure that Hawaii is included in the map that you have loaded on your unit. I mention this because the entire US map will no longer fit on my unit, so I have to specify a western US subset.
