Norweigan cruise brides- please help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm getting married on February 12, 2016 on the Norwegian Breakaway!

Just wondering if anyone got married, or planning to get married, on a Norwegian cruise line and would be willing to share their experiences. All information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I read your review and it was great! I feel a little better now that I have read some other boards. I found out some additional information.

- That cakes can be customized with different design and colors(except metallic and black colors) but it has to be pre-approved by the baker. You are not allowed to bring your own cake. Each tier can have it's own flavor.

- My reception time can be extended to 2 hours since my departure time is at 6:00pm.

-The photography a la carte price is $299 per hour , and the DVD is $499.

Did you purchase any of the albums they were offering? Im thinking that I can just purchase 3 hours of photography and get the DVD images. But I wonder will I regret not purchasing any of the albums and photos.

Also my main concern is that I won't know the exact location of my ceremony and reception until right before the wedding. This is frustrating to me because it's hard for me to visualize since I don't know what the location will look like and it's hard to figure out how I should decorate.

Do you remember how far in advance they confirmed your ceremony location?

We did not buy any of the albums from the ship -- we just bought the CD and got the 4x6 prints they had already made which my Mom asked the photographer to throw in. I made a photo book on Shutterfly later. I am happy with the way all the photography stuff worked out and would do it the same way again.

I think our location was just confirmed a couple of weeks beforehand. I had been on the ship before but not to that location. It didn't matter much to me because I wasn't planning to do a lot of decorating. We requested a table at the front to put a couple of battery operated candles on and we had our own toasting glasses with ribbons tied on them, ribbon to tie on the cake server, and personalized napkins, but that was about it. My Mom and other family members took care of that part. I never saw the venue until I was walking down the aisle (although I am sure I could have if I'd asked to).

I am sure you'll have a great time!! We're looking forward to going back on our wedding ship for our 4th anniversary next year with my parents and our son who'll be 2 :)

I've just joined this app so I'm not sure if this is the best way to get in touch with you Gymbomb, but if you do see this, my fiancé and I are planning on getting married on the Dawn July 2016. We are not sure if we are going to go with harbor side wedding for non sailing guests to come, or do it at sea or on Bermuda with those that can go, because we would like to have more than just appetizers.. I read your review and I was wondering about time frames, is 1030 when anyone can get on the boat? And when did it leave port?

Hi! We also briefly considered doing the wedding in Bermuda. We decided not to for the following reasons: it cost more, risk of weather for outside ceremony, we and all our guests would "lose" a day in Bermuda, and we had a few people we wanted to invite who we knew could not sail. Also after the wedding when we were enjoying sail away we were really glad that the stress of the wedding (for us and at least my mom -- happy stress but still stress!) was over and we could thoroughly relax and enjoy he whole trip. Of course you may have different reasons for wanting to do yours on Bermuda :) Norwegian does not do weddings at sea.

The timing can vary depending on how fast they get people off the ship in he morning, etc. They will gather your guests and escort you onto the ship as the first people to board. I want to say it was scheduled to leave around 4, but I could be wrong on that. We did not have any time pressure at all, though we did not do a reception. I ended up waiting around with my MOH for a good little while before the wedding coordinator took us to the venue, then after the wedding we did photos, cake & champagne, then had a while to change clothes and hang out and visit with all of our guests before our non sailing guests had to leave.

I will try to keep an eye here if you have any other questions :) also I believe the Dawn is scheduled for dry dock in May 2016 (not sure if there has been an official announcement, but there are a few weeks then with no scheduled cruises). We will be sailing on it again the first week of June 2016 so if you want anything scouted out closer to the time just let me know!

My fiancee and I are getting married on the Getaway in December of this year. It is the sister ship of the Breakaway.

My biggest disappointment is I really want to go to a cake tasting for our wedding.

I will say that our cake looked better than I had expected, but I did not think it tasted good at all. I was starving by that point but did not finish my piece of cake. We had a choice of chocolate or white cake and 2 or 3 choices for fillings and went with white cake and regular buttercream frosting filling. I don't think it would have made much of a difference though. There were lots of other great desserts on the cruise though, and to me the wedding cake is more about the pictures and traditions. I honestly don't think I've ever had wedding cake that really tasted good!

Yea I agree, cake tasting would be a nice experience, just to say we did it. My main concern is how the cake will look, I wanted something unique to go with my theme. Hopefully the cake that I want, will get approved by the baker. Also, I know my fiance wanted a groom's cake, but that's probably out of the question. Lol

Another concern of mine is the food itself. I really would have liked the experience of taste testing the food as well. Did anyone have the cocktail reception? If so, how was the food? Did you get the standard reception or the deluxe?

That's exciting! Mines is just a 2 day weekend cruise... I wish I could do the the island wedding but I wanted to find a cruise that's affordable so hopefully I can get a lot of my family and friends to join us.. We still plan to take a real honeymoon afterwards hopefully to Punta Cuna..
