cooknknit Posted August 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2014 Hi, I'll be on a cruise out of NOLA on 11/2, but will be in town a couple days beforehand. We'll be arriving on Halloween. Can anyone tell me if I should expect a crazy night or a just regular evening? I've been there once before, but not on Halloween. If I should expect crazy, anything to avoid with a 14 year old in tow? We don't mind crazy, but it needs to be PG-13. :D
jgmpuma Posted August 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2014 It's like Mardi Gras, but on a smaller scale. I would avoid Bourbon Street, but the rest of the French Quarter will be fine, with lots of costumes. It will be a lot more fun if you dress up, even just a mask and a cheap wig. My wife and I do it every year.
Bookbug53 Posted September 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2014 Same cruise date and also in port for 2 nights prior. We arrive on the 31st. Was I mistakenly told that NOLA does it's Halloween celebrations the week end before to avoid a lot of craziness on the actual night? I must say I was a little disappointed when told this. Any truth? beachpearl Posted September 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2014 I've done NOLA twice for Halloween. Halloween is not celebrated the week before. Bourbon Street will be VERY crowded, but not the entire French Quarter. It's like a mini Mardi Gras, but more fun. Some of the costumes people wear are creative and hilarious -makes for great picture taking! It's festive and there are parades in the daytime the day before and on Halloween Day.
