St Thomas Abbey questions

I am going with Carnival on a cruise in a few weeks and was looking to go to St. Thomas Abbey. Can anyone tell me the best way to get there? I was thinking of grabbing a taxi when i arrive, is that the best way? I would prefer to not have to hire a car and the ship excursion sounds like it is long and grueling, so would rather do it on my own schedule and terms.

How far is the Abbey from the port?
