Singapore - Grand Prix

We will be on the Sapphire Princess disembarking in Singapore on September 20, right in the middle of Grand Prix week with the big race being the next day. We have booked a hotel for a few days. Has anyone ever experienced Singapore during this time and can offer suggestions on how to avoid these festivities? It seems the entire Marina Bay area and surroundings will be off limits to anyone not holding a pass.
