Changing balcony discount after booking

If I book a balcony with Emerald discount ($125 = more than 6 months out) and then do several cruises that take us to Diamond, can I then get the Diamond discount? From what I have read in other threads the cruise gets repriced and we lose $25 of discount ($200 - less than 6 months out).

My guess is best strategy is book now and then when we become Diamond see if higher discount or cancelling/rebooking is better option based on current pricing in February.
