Cindy's mum Posted August 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2017 hi can anyone tell me if cabin 315 on Ponant's L'Austral has a balcony with obstructed views. Or if you know of other cabins with obstructed view balcony. Many thanks.:)
crystalspin Posted August 15, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Interesting question. Looking at the photo of the starboard side of the ship -- there is nothing to obstruct your view on any of the balconies. However the 28 "Deluxe" balconies on the 3rd deck have steel (not plexiglass) railings, or rather the 'walls' below the rails are solid and opaque affecting your view, compared to the "Prestige" balconies on decks 4-6. In truth, the plexiglass is not clear most of the time, but often smeared with ocean spray except after a wash-down; so it's less important than you might think. To spot or focus on anything in the water or on shore, you will have to stand or sit right up to the rail on any balcony. Deck 3 is the lowest deck with balconies and is in the gray-painted part of the hull in pic below. You can see the openings below the steel rails that act as drains to the sea: the row of dashes. Strangely, though, the deckplan (on Ponant's own site), shows 19 balconies on the starboard side of this deck. The photo is clear that there are 14 balconies (odd numbers 309-337), four Superior Staterooms with windows (301-307, odd), and (apparently) one cabin of some sort with one or two portholes (300). Perhaps it is the doctor's, as it is the closest to the infirmary! On the port side there are 14 balconies, the elevator, and three rooms with windows only... but all depicted as balconies in the deckplan. I presume they sell them as Superior Staterooms and admit they don't have balconies!
Cindy's mum Posted August 15, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Thank you so much for that, it answers all my questions and assures me that this cabin will suit us fine. I couldn't see any structural obstructions so thanks for clearing it up.:)
