Place to stay near Port of Miami

Hey there - my husband I will be taking our 2 children on a cruise out of Miami next weekend. Since we live in Sarasota we decided to go Thursday night and stay somewhere. Does anyone know of a hotel that is close to the port and is in a safe area?

I have read good things about the Holiday Inn on Biscayne Bay. Fred has posted a couple good threads. Search on "Inn".

Are you Driving to Miami? Need parking? Pretty short notice.

Holiday Inn at the port ( Biscayne Blvd) is very popular, ( not really a value for what they charge) and across the street from shopping and restaurants (Bayside) . Also Intercontinental is more of a business hotel but too, very close to the port and Bayside. You're paying for location for both hotels. Cab to port is only like 10$ from these hotels. If you need parking, you need to find some other places. OR pay the 20$ a day to park at the port.
