Geuen600 Posted July 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Does anyone know if the costa magica casino is any good? Lots of people or more abandoned?
zannacanada Posted August 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2012 I think it depends on who's on the ship and what else is going on when you're at sea. My daughter and I were on the Costa Magica last fall. The slot machines were often busy and sometimes crowded, but there were lulls. One night the roulette tables were particularly crowded, but after 20 minutes I could play. The casino has sort of an H-shaped floorplan, with the gaming tables on one side and the slot machines on the other. One evening the bridge (the cross bar in the H) was packed with young smokers, so we didn't stay. As for the card tables, I didn't notice how crowded or quiet it was. And I don't remember there being a craps table.
Blondie008 Posted August 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2012 Does it have a bar? On NeoR there as no casino bar, and when I look at the pics of Costa ships, never seem to see an actual casino bar in any of them. Is there? Going on Magica in around six weeks or so, looking forward to being back on a "big ship" again..NeoR was lovely, but a bit small and in bad weather, kind of missed the big ship ambience. zannacanada Posted August 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2012 I don't remember there being a bar in the casino. Possibly because there was none rather than that my memory's failing (I hope!)
Geuen600 Posted August 9, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Was on the magica in july. There is no bar in the casino. But there is a waiter who runs around there. Or you can ask the casino staff to cal bar service. The casino itself is rather small. 2 blackjack tables 4 roullette tables. Tri card poker table and a carribean stud table. There also is an electronic texas hold em table with regular tournaments. But no one showed. Minimu bets for everything exept roulette is 5 euro. Roulette is 1 euro. The casino was often quit crowded. So had a nice atmosphere. The dealers and staff were excelent. Any more questions about the magica can be posted here and i will reply. I kind of like the ambience of a casino bar, on Carnival for example, theres always a buzz around the casino bars at night. Same on RCCL - perhaps its te combination of smoking drinking gamblers :D but always found it a lively spot on ships. How are the other bars? Aside from the Grand bar where magicians etc go on - any good live band bars with a bit of atmosphere? Cant be bothered with "audience participation" stuff - how are the bars etc? An martini/disco type bar? How was the capri lounge? Sorry - loads of questions :)
Geuen600 Posted August 10, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Blondie008 The best spot to hang out is the bar capo collonia. Its the piano/ winebar. There are live singers in the evening. Also the sala ballo spolleto is good, mostly live latin music. The capri lounge is if you like to dance. The big windows offer a nice view too. In the atrium on deck 3 there is usually a piano playing. You also have the disco on deck 4 wich is best after 1 am. There also are 2 bars near the 2 pools on deck 9. And a cognac and sigar bar next to the shops on deck 5. I do advise to take the all inclusive beverage package. Almost all popular drinks are included. Like about 20 cocktails wine beer sparkling wine. And lots of italian liquors. And this during the whole day and night as long as the bars are open. There is a list somewhere on cruisecritic of the drinks.
Geuen600 Posted August 10, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted August 10, 2012 The food is quit ok. I am from belgium and i appreciate italian food. Although the food on american ships is better and you get more. The buffet is opened in the morning for breakfast and at noon for lunch. After that uou can only get pizza. And there is the afternoon tea with light snacks. The main dining rooms are open for all meals.
Blondie008 Posted August 10, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Thanks Geuen - Sounds like we have plenty choices - great! We were on NeoR in June - (embarked in Amsterdam - fab!) beautiful ship, but much smaller than our usual style ship. And yes, we had the all inclusive, its amazing huh :D Food on NeoR was outstanding - surprisingly good and for me as wheat/gluten intolerant - was far far far better than I have had before. I think each line has its "best at" - Costa - for sure the pasta and risotto were great - good soups I thought too...Carnival - cant beat their Tandoori stations - great curries.. Cruise ship food is cruise ship food..mass production, but plenty of it and if you cannot find something you like you have a serious problem! :) Thanks for your help!! GEORGET Posted August 16, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Tip if the slots are the new ones that take your cruise card and pay out paper wins. You can register your card on the slot, enter cash amount and instead of playing withdraw the amount and go to the cash desk for the funds. this avoids the 3% charge. The casino will block this if you abuse it but if you are a gambler and play the tables it can save you money. g
Geuen600 Posted August 16, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Great tip. But im afraid the slots on the magica arent new and only take cash or tokens.
