anyone done and is the renewel of wedding vows worth it. It is my wifes 50th birthday whilst on board and thinking of ways to celebrate. comments and suggestions please,

We did it in 2012. It's rather a women's thing, so DW enjoyed it. The ceremony was held by the Commodore on a sea day during the WC in a side room of the Commodore Club and later a champagne, strawberry and cake reception at the port side wing of the CC. It was nice, very professional and worth the money. Your DW will love it.

She doesn't read CC then? :D

We thought about getting married on QM2 but ended up doing the ceremony quietly at home pre cruise with just a couple friends rather than with strangers.

I think a vows ceremony would be nice if you had a few friends along.

Hi dan dan. I have no personal experience of the renewal of wedding vows on Cunard ships, but your post made me curious so I found the details and price on the Cunard website here: http://www.cunard.com/cruise-ships/cunard-experience/special-occasions/?view=1940#tabbedModule1931

How nice of you to look for ways to celebrate your wifes birthday (and my best wishes in advance of the occasion). No doubt, no one knows your wife better than you do, so if you think she would enjoy the renewal of wedding vow ceremony, then it is well worth it.

Of course, there are many ways to celebrate a special birthday, and what appeals to some might not appeal to others. My husband's birthday occurred on one of the QM2 cruises we took to the Caribbean. Briefly put, my gift to him was that we'd do the excursions/activities of his choice. We took the submarine excursion he selected (way cool), toured forts (he enjoyed that, and I managed not to groan), spent time in the casino (the chips were my gift - and he doubled them! - how often does that happen?), he really loves the library, so we spent time there quietly reading. One night, I offered to make reservations at Todd English, but he said he'd really rather eat late at Kings Court. I'm not a big fan of Kings Court, but as luck would have it, that night there was a chef slicing Prime Ribs fresh from the oven! I have to admit, our meal was very good, and we enjoyed a quite table in an alcove late on that rainy night. We had a nice bottle of red wine with our meal, and hubby was more than happy with his 11 day birthday celebration.

Anyway, you are obviously a thoughtful husband, and I'm sure your wife will be pleased with whatever gift you give her, especially if you ask her how she would like to celebrate.:)

Cheers & best wishes,

Salacia

So, what's not to like about a "very professional" renewal of the wedding vows on board? Crass commercialization perhaps?

Romantic? - Not the way you described it. "It's rather a women's thing" you wrote. Well that is certainly an interesting comment, and one with which I take exception.

No, no, you got me wrong. I am a professional in the hospitality industry and therefore do have a very focussed view on the way services are performed. "Romantic" is not my thing.

It was not a cold perfornance. My wife would describe it as a very personal and warm athmosphere.

First hand review here. This is for a 'Renewal'. Himself surprised me on our recent crossing. We did not need the legal bits done, but had never formally 'exchanged vows'. So for us it was the first time we had a ceremony.

The staff was tickled to arrange it as a surprise. I thought I was attending a cocktail party with the Captain on the night of the Black & White Ball. I was so clueless I was initially a bit annoyed Himself had insisted that we be "on time" and were the first guests. To my surprise there were no other guests ; -)

As we entered, the Capt's PA (thank you Hazel!) handed me a lovely bouquet of red roses and the entertainment hostess pinned a red rose boutonniere on to his lapel. (sorry I forgot the name, but thank you too)

Once I figured out what was happening, and mopped my face up with the thoughtfully provided tissue, I realized there were lovely flower arrangements and a photographer in a handsome kilt (thank you Tom Tom!)

Captain Wells made the ceremony very thoughtful and hit just the right note. It was all a bit overwhelming, in the best way possible.

After there was champagne and a strawberry cream cake, beautifully decorated. The Captain, hostess and assistant along with the photographer and a very kind waiter helped us celebrate. They were all very generous with their time and we did not feel rushed at all. Later Tom Tom, in his cool kilt, escorted us around the ship to his favorite photo spots. We had fun and other passengers were generous in their best wishes.

It was all very professional, in the very best way, but also very warm. I know this is a packaged service they offer but for all that it was very personal and sincere. They made us feel very comfortable and very special in a private way. It did not feel scripted at all. Of course some of that may have been all the giggling as I slowly figured out what was up.

Beautifully done and the photos will remind us always of that special day!
