Venice to San Marino

We are spending a couple of pre cruise days in Venice and we would like to visit San Marino. We have been to Venice several times but we are geocachers and we want a cache in a new country.

Any suggestions for a good way to get to San Marino for a day trip besides renting a car. TIA.

Looks like the only public transit suggested by local tourism site is bus from Rimini, 50 min, 5€. Venice to Rimini is by train 3-3.5 hrs with train change in Bologna. Thank you. If we were to hire a driver or a cab for the day, does anyone have an idea of the cost?

We do have a car tentatively booked for about 100 euros, but we would prefer not to do the driving ourselves.

If you are flexible swap 1 Venice night for Bologna and do your day trip from there. Bologna is a worthy place to visit and has excellent restaurants. IMO from popularity perspective its a totally overlooked destination.

Its faster than from Venice which is really long day trip. Venice to SM will be 4.5 hrs o/w. From Bologna on public transit still need to take train to Rimini (around 1 hr) and bus from there (50 min). Also car rentals in Bologna should be cheaper, in $50 ballpark as per Expedia. Car trip is around 1.5 hrs o/w
