skayebs Posted February 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Can the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center in Blenheim be reached through any kind of public transportation from Picton. What other sights are recommended in Blenheim? Thanks Sharon
Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 18, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Hi Sharon, Dont like your chances for public transport, presuming you will want Picton return on the same day and to fit in with your ships schedule. However cruise ship passengers are welcomed to Blenheim from Picton...heres a link to check out. An inquiry there may be of some help. http://lovemarlborough.co.nz/cruise-ship/
skayebs Posted February 19, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted February 19, 2013 David, Thank you for your response on transportation from Picton to Blenheim. I checked out your link and noted quite a few Marborough cruises. There are some ships cruises that go to Blenheim and one that visits the Aircraft Exhibition. What is available in the town of Picton that we may choose over the ships tour? Thanks Sharon
Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2013 Picton is the point of entry for most visitors to the South Island, (apart from air), as it is the terminal for the InterIsland Ferries. It has a lot of visitors passing through and therefore supports a good range of gift shops, souvenir shops art and craft shops and galleries. Very pleasant to spend an hour or two browsing around. Otherwise a tour, either ships tour or private, is almost essential to "get out of town" and back in the time for your ship. Being a main entry point, all the car rental companies are there if renting a car for the day appeals....... however..... be warned , the roads around Picton are very narrow, quite steep and lots of bends in the road......plus we drive on the "wrong" side of the road for you.:D The highlight of any cruise to Picton is the sail in/out through the very picturesque Marlborough Sounds....make sure you get a good viewing spot.:)
