Acadia Trails Without Island Explorer Transport

We will be in Bar Harbor for one day, Oct. 19, a week after the Island Explorer stops running :-( We want to hike in Acadia, preferably a moderate hike. We don't mind walking from Bar Harbor if any trailhead is within an hour's walk.

The Great Meadow Loop is a possibility, but that's one we can do early or late on our port day since it starts in town.

Google Maps says the Bear Brook Trail is 2.5 miles from town. Is that a good trail? Gorham Mt. and Cadillac S. Ridge look like we'd need to take a cab - is that even a possibility? Would we arrange for a return pick-up?

Thanks for your help.

If you opt for a cab, arrange a time and place to be picked up. I did not see any cabs in Acadia when I was on my tour and cell reception was often spotty.

It looks like Great Meadow Loop connects to other trails in the park. Have you looked at that as an option?

Jen,

Thanks for that idea! Your idea led me to the Acadia NPS website from which I found the website below, which let me search for specific trails, showed me a map, and gave good instructions for finding the trailhead and what to expect from the hike.

Good, I am glad you could find more information. I just had limited time to walk around at a few stops but it looks like a great place for hiking. I could see several trails at each place we stopped.
