sailorgirl Posted March 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2008 Is Mercury the only ship in town (4/19) or are we likely to have a huge battle for an early taxi getaway? Is a private car reservation necessary? Thanks for any input.
polodad Posted March 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2008 Just checked the Port of SF schedule & Mercury is the only ship on 4/19. With that being said the Embarcadero (St that Port is on) is not great for catching cabs. You may want to have a private car service meet you. Since parking is limited, give them an appriximate time to meet anbd call them when you arrive.

Is a private car reservation necessary? Thanks for any input. You might consider using SuperShuttle (www.supershuttle.com). You'll need to provide them with a cel-fone number, and might have to spend some time explaining that you're arriving on a cruise ship. I would make your reservation before leaving home, and follow up with a telephone call when your in port at at your stop prior to San Francisco. SharkieRools Posted March 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2008 The last time we disembarked in San Francisco (April 2006) we had no problem catching a cab at the pier. They know when the ships are coming in and line up accordingly. Most days are one ship days in San Francisco. On the occasions there are more than one ship in port one of them will usually dock at Pier 27 (and sometimes Pier 30/32 if there's more than 2) unless one of the ships is a small ship. In that case both might dock at Pier 35.
sailorgirl Posted March 26, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted March 26, 2008 I absolutely love our Cruise Critic web site because - once again - there are so many helpful people out there. Thanks for all the input! Carole
sultan_sfo Posted March 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2008 Yes -- you are correct. Also, at Pier 35, the line of pax and line of cabs are very orderly because there is Princess Rep controlling the line and an SFPD (Police) controlling the cabs.
