Currency in carribean - Latin Gems

Recommended Posts

Hi guys i need some help again.

We sail on Thomson Dream on 27th Jan. I have been trying to decide what to take in terms of money. Is it better to take US$ cash, some cash and Sterling travellers cheques or some cash and the pre paid debit cards.

Never used the pre paid cards before and wondered what comes out of the ATM 's is it US$ or Carribean currency?

Can anyone help, I would really appreciate it?

Take US Dollars, accepted everywhere, in small bills - plenty of $1's.

Where change is due, before you hand over larger denominations, make sure the vendor can give you dollars back.

ATMs dispense local currency which has obvious drawbacks.

Do you have a UK debit card - use that for settling onboard account.

Have a credit card for larger purchases onshore. Some have no foreign transaction fees - Nationwide Select and HBOS Clarity for example.

If you go to a bank with UK currency or travellers cheques looking for $ US - they will convert it to local currency first, then convert that amount to US Dollars.

Banks may ask for two forms of identity - passport is not always enough. Driving licence is the only other common photo ID I can think off.
