Leaving Summit for shore after check-in on embarkation day

This will be our first cruise with Celebrity, southern caribbean out of San Juan on the Summit in November. What is the earliest we can check in and is it possible to leave our carry-ons in our cabin and go back to shore to wander a bit before reboarding? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Summit is a lovely ship and one we sail alot on. We are at the ship around 11:30 and we are on no later than noon. You can drop off your carry-ons in your cabin and leave the ship. Do not forget your seapass cards to reboard. You will need to take a taxi anywhere as there is nothing around the ship. Have a great time.

Two weeks ago they didn't open the boarding terminal until 11:30 am, so don't arrive before then or you'll be lined up outside the building (in the shade, but no air conditioning) to wait.

Generally, you can not count on leaving your bags in your stateroom until the staterooms are ready (usually 1PM or later) even if you board earlier. Also be aware that the muster drill might be an hour our two before early seating dinner time of 6PM even though the ship leaves later. If you miss this you may be required to attend a make up drill late that evening or the next morning.

There are a number of things to do and visit in the San Juan area pre/post cruise. I would suggest, however, to truly enjoy these places with adequate time, go a day early or leave a day later. You won't feel so rushed. A Bicardi tour, a tour of the fort, wandering the old city are options as well as finding a nice restaurant for a leisurely meal. Getting a taxi from the port to the old city and back will use up most of an hour depending on traffic.
