Northern Aurora Posted November 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2014 We will be in Buenos Aires for a few days prior to a cruise. dr__dawggy Posted November 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) We will be in Buenos Aires for a few days prior to a cruise. While I've located an old thread I am interested in current recommendations for interesting restaurants in the Recoleta area. We are adventurous eaters. Thanks for any recommendations. Fervor or El Mirasol de la Recova for steak and grilled meat. http://www.fervorbrasas.com.ar/ Posadas 1519 (Posadas and Callao) http://elmirasol.com.ar/ Posadas 1032 If you are really adventurous try a mixed grill that includes blood sausage, sweetbreads, and grilled lamb small intestine, along with chicken and beef cuts. Otherwise, steak to ojo de bife, lomo, or a simple but tasty bife de chorizo. I like grilled proveleta as an appetizer and puree de calabaza (mashed pumpkin squash) as a substitute for potatoes. Sotto Voce for Italian http://www.sottovocerestaurant.com/ Libertador 1098 El Cuartito for Pizza, Argentina style. Talcahuano 937 El Sanjuanino for Empanadas. Posadas 1515 http://elsanjuanino.co/esp/sucursales.html Disclaimer: I have not been to any of these places in two years, but my friends from BA tell me they are still turning out good food and wine....and they are on my "list" for January. Also on my list, my friend Elf Doug (Trip Advisor Screen Name) is a chef from California and a regular visitor to BA. He visits a variety of restaurants each trip. His most recent recommendations (October 2014) are posted to this thread on TA. None of these spots are in Recoleta but might be worth a short cab ride, depending upon your passion for food. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g312741-i979-k535586-The_best_restaurants_in_BA-Buenos_Aires_Capital_Federal_District.html, Edited November 25, 2014 by dr__dawggy

dr__dawggy Posted November 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 26, 2014 dr__dawggy: Thank you so much for the suggestions. Exactly what I was looking for. You are welcome, and if you are interested in saving a little money, exchange dollars for pesos at the unofficial or blue rate at an "arbolito (informal exchange house or bank), and pay in cash. You will lower the credit card charge by a good amount. In Recoleta, At the back of the Alvear Palace Hotel Posadas 1564 (next door to the tourist information booth) there is a small shopping arcade(Galeria Promenade). On the right as you walk in there is a shop completely covered up with a picture of a cow. Press the door bell next to the door and they will buzz you in. Once inside it is like a small bank with security screens counting machines etc. Exchange rates have been fluctuating quite a bit lately, but the official rate remains substantially lower than the blue rate (about 30%). Take only new hundred dollar bills to exchange.
Talisker92 Posted November 26, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 26, 2014 We saw a great Tango Show and dinner at La Ventana. Have your concierge make the arrangements. they will pick you up at your hotel.
