pstone1 Posted June 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2011 We are sailing on the RCCL Enchantment of the Seas in July. Has anyone taken their "Ocean Trail Hike" in Bar Harbor? Looking for some feedback. Thanks! Paula
SailBadtheSinner Posted June 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2011 I have not taken this excursion but I have walked a good portion of the very picturesque Ocean Trail on my visits to Bar Harbor. This is one excursion that can be DIY with just the cost of the park entry fee, of course there would be no narrative included. Assuming your visit is between 6/23-10/11, you could board the free bus service for Acadia National Park, the Island Explorer http://www.exploreacadia.com/index.htm , at the BH Town Green which is located about a 5-7 minute walk from the tender dock. You would request to be dropped at Sand Beach, the start of the Ocean Trail http://www.acadiamagic.com/ocean_path.html , and would walk to Otter Cliffs http://www.acadiamagic.com/OtterCliff.html , the end of the trail for a total distance of about 3 miles. At any point on the trail, you could flag down a passing IE bus to be returned to the BH Town Green. The reason you can flag a bus is that Ocean Trail parallels the Park Loop Rd and runs next to it. The bus route that would take you there and return would be a route #3 bus. With the money you have saved by not taking the excursion, have a lobster :D at one of BH's fine restaurant. pstone1 Posted June 13, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks for the great info! We're really looking forward to our visit and want to see as much as possible. We really wanted to hike along the water but also want to have a great lobster roll and brew, take the shuttle into Acadia, and see the town. Too many great things to do in Bar Harbor!
