DD and SIL are wanting to rent scooters or motorbikes while in Kauai for the day, and we are wondering if there are rental places near the pier, and what are good places to go touring on them? 1st time to the Island.

Thank you so much! ( sorry, normally I would try to use the search feature but it is still disabled)

Hi Julia,

I think there is a Harley Davidson rental agency in Lihue, but not sure about scooter rentals. Please read through some of the threads on the Kauai tripadvisor forum about the dangers of driving a scooter there. There are more recent threads than this one, but it gives you an idea of reasons why a car would be a much better choice for enjoying a day on Kauai. Perhaps your DD and SIL are thinking that Hawaii is similar to the Caribbean re roads and scooters, but it's not.

Waimea Canyon is a great destination, with a stop on the way back at Poipu Beach.

Your son would be the only one renting. I take it there would be at most the two of you on one motorcycle. A scoter would not do with two people. Lack of power.

So, the Harley rental place would be the best. It will be a lot more then renting a car.

I have rented Harleys there, but not scooters. The roads are safe enough (speed limit never get above 50mph) in Kauai, but the distances between the different sites are far enough a part that the fun might turn into fatigue on a scooter. A Harley works fine, but they are pretty expensive in Kauai. The Harley Dealership in Maui is about half the price of Kauai for some reason. Still, it would be a beautiful ride.
