Transportation to Giant's Causeway

Recommended Posts

We will be traveling on the Grand Princess. We wanted to know what kind of private or public transportation is available to take us from our pier in Belfast to the Giant's Causeway.

Thanks in advance for your replies, we sincerely appreciate your help!

If you look further down the threads you will see 'Belfast Tour' and the first post gives you the reply to your question about private tours to the Giants Causeway.

It would be pretty impossible to use public transport (bus) to get there in the time frame you have. There is a courtesy bus laid on to transfer you from the Grand Princess to Belfast City Centre if you wish to use public transport. The bus and train company is Translink - schedules available here -

It is a very long drive to Giant's Causeway and it's probably not practical (if it's even possible) to do on your own.

Mini-coach tours does a wonderful bus tour to Giant's Causeway. If you get enough people, they will pick you up at the dock. Last year someone on our roll call organized 10 of us to guarantee the trip.

You can reach them through rodneyandcaroline@hotmail.co.uk.

Their cost is only 30 GBPs each for an all day tour and you will see a LOT of the Giant's Causeway and they have various stops to see things like the rope bridge and washroom breaks and places you can buy snacks and postcards and souvenirs and such.

You will get to the hotel there and it will be in time for lunch. They do a very nice lunch for under GBP 10 each and have several stores, a movie and you will be there for long enough to take a bus down to the bottom if you like and back up again. If you are very young and fit, you could walk it but the rocks are a bit slippery.

After you leave that area, you will see another part of Northern Ireland and then spend some time in Belfast where you will also get great commentary from the driver. He is excellent.

We did this in June and just loved it. The ship also had a similar tour there but not as long and it also didn't include lunch and their tour was about twice as much. Of course they have a guide but some of those are more trouble than they are worth, quoting useless facts where the drivers tell you more of what you would like to know and answer lots of questions as well. In fact, the drivers tell it like it is and give their own opinions which are very interesting.

There are a large number of us signed up with the tour previously described - they might even have room left for more. Have you checked the roll-call for the Grand or are you hoping to do this on your own? We will be on the July 25th departure.:)
