Ilhabela, Brazil

We not interested in the beach, what else is there for us in Ilhabela, Brazil?

Looking at the beach view while drinking a beer. :-)

It's an upscale getaway destination for the well-off in Sao Paulo, visited precisely for its beaches, so that is generally the type of activity you'll find, including boat trips, kite surfing, wind surfing, snorkling, surfing, etc. You can also do some hiking and birdwatching. There are restaurants and a few shops.

Watch out for the borrachudos; bring repellent.

Hmmm...not much! Ilhabela is all about the beach and nice views!

The city is lovely... there's a beautiful church very close to where the tender docks:

There's a nice place called Sea Club that offers a nice restaurant, sushi bar, swimming pools and a very nice view, they offer a day-use ticket. I've been there, and it's totally worth the price:http://www.seaclub.com.br/

Anoher option is the DPNY hotel that offers a day-use (swimming pools, bar, restaurant)...pretty much the same from the Sea Club but it also has a Spa:http://www.dpny.com.br/en/the-dpny/beach-club

Definitely bring repellent!

  • 9 months later...

Is there much to do in the town of Ilhabela? Decent shopping, walking areas? We are in port all day from 7am - 4pm, and we're not beach people, so just trying to get an idea. The suggestions of a day pass at one of the resorts looks like a nice idea! Or maybe just enjoy the views from the ship =)

We rented bikes and the ride along the coast was wonderful.

We might be interested in doing this. Where did you get the bikes and how much were they? Was it hilly and was there enough room to ride without being right on the road?

We were there 1st March. It was rather hot. Saw no bugs at all. As you get off the tender continue across the first road and into a small shopping area with a pedestrian only access. On the left side was a small shop renting bikes. Do not remember what we paid but very reasonable. There is a nice bike path as you exit the small tender area and we headed south to Barra Velha. Keep to the bike path when you can as the roads are cobbled and rather rough on you on the bike. There is a public bus for R$3.10 I think that runs from Vila to Barra where you can change buses to head further south. . Enjoy
