Crowne Plaza San Pedro to Long Beach

I just booked the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro on Priceline ($65) for a pre-cruise stay. We arrive at LAX around 10:45am so I had been hoping to take a taxi to the hotel to drop off our luggage and then head to Long Beach for some sightseeing. According to the Crowne Plaza website, the Long Beach entertainment area is 8 miles away. However, when I spoke to the front desk at the Crowne Plaza, they told me that it was a 20-30 minute drive away. I had been hoping that the cab ride would be around $20 each way. Am I wrong? How much would a taxi cost between San Pedro and Long Beach?

We stayed in Long Beach and I know that a cab from Long Beach to San Pedro was about $20.00 before tip. It is about a 20 minute drive but could be a little more depending on traffic.
