The Louvre and art teachers

We will be in Paris for a few days (skipping a cruise this summer for a land vacation in Paris and Amsterdam). My DW is an elementary art teacher. She said she read on the internet yesterday that art teachers get into the Louvre free, but it did not say what proof you need. She can prove she is a teacher, but not an art teacher.

Does anyone know what proof they would need.

(If we buy some sort of Paris or museum pass that includes the Louvre, this becomes irrelevant.)

Did the text say art teachers from any country in the world? If so, I recommend your wife ask if the Art Specialist in her school district or even someone from the personnel office will write a letter on official letterhead stating her subject matter specialty. I'm assuming she'll be traveling with her school-issued ID.

FWIW, many deals -- senior citizens, art teachers, etc. -- only apply to the citizens of the country where the museum or site is located. As written on the web site, the offer may not make this detail clear, but when people get to the ticket booth, the reality turns out to be somewhat different. (If the museum is in an EU country, citizens from all the EU countries benefit.). Sure, there are some museums/sites that offer deals to anyone, and sometimes this is an ad hoc situation based on the mood of the person selling tickets.

All I'm saying arrive prepared with documentation, but don't be surprised if you don't get free admission. Going to the Prado almost a decade ago, I got admitted free because I had museum ID from an major US museum. The art teacher from some country -- not EU -- was not offered free admission even though she was standing in the line that claimed to handle admission for art teachers.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In the summer of 2012, we stayed over a day after a cruise in Barcelona. At the Picasso Museum, I received a senior citizen discount. If DW had some proof with her that she was a teacher, she would have received a discount.

Last summer, we did a British Isles cruise. We received senior discounts including a museum in Ireland, an EU country.

So, maybe they will apply in France. Or, maybe not.
