Hi Essowner, yes we have prebooked cabin on deck 1. Did the same cruise last year on Spirit and had a fabulous time! Yes the ship is the oldest in the fleet, but it has had a recent mini make over, (it was used as a floating hotel for the Winter Olympics) so should looking its best now.

The crew, in our experience are what makes the ship what it is, nothing being too much trouble for them! Yes the ship does have a vibration, (as does the sister ship celebration) but it does not cause any issues, in fact you will not take any notice of it after a short while.

Have you booked any trips yet? Algeria is an experience! The Spirit was the largest cruise ship to have visited Algiers last year and we were met dockside by the Minister for Tourism, such was the importance to them of the visit. We were escorted everywhere, but had no issues, in fact quite the opposite, people wanted to talk to us, especially the children/teenagers who were keen to try out their English! You have to book with Thomson for Algeria trips, due to visa requirements but most other destinations can be done yourselves.

We are counting down the days and looking forward to the rest! Well for the first three days rest is on the agenda!

We were disappointed in Algiers - the Thomsons excursion was well overpriced (nothing new)for what was in effect a coach ride upto the martyrs monument followed by another short bus journey with a walk around the local municipal gardens.

The return journey through the city was interesting though, despite no stops.

The Algerian government clearly needs to get its tourism act together - not Thomson fault.

Hi wee countryman, we're you on the bus that nearly got stuck under the road bridge? As we were!

No, we were spared that drama, thankfully.

I did notice a delay in the traffic with police in attendance - your coach ?

Yes! The escorts went under the bridge and the bus followed! Part way under the driver slammed on the brakes to prevent the air conditioning unit being ripped of the roof!

Very interesting backing out of the bridge and using alternative route, no harm done.

Hi decjoe thanks for the info. Didn't know that about Algeria, we will do an excursion there definitely, most of the places I've never been to. Not booked any trips, will do it when on board ship but hopefully will be able to do some on our own. I'm sure we will like the Spirit, have been on Majesty and liked that.

Thanks, I've come across that, some that I 've looked at cover it as Europe and some didnt. Is there plenty of deck space on Spirit for sunbeds? With first two days being at sea iwondered if there was plenty of space. Is the main area for sunbeds where the pool is?

Hi Essowner in reply to your question concerning sunbeds. We didn't find a problem finding a sunbed during sea days. If you don't mind being away from the pool there are lots of beds on all decks, just don't turn up at 11am and expect a choice!
