New Orleans hotel - which reservation to keep?

I think my least favorite part of planning a cruise is picking the hotel. We are driving to New Orleans so we either need a hotel that offers cruise parking or will park at the cruise terminal. We only need a room for 1 night. We prefer hotels that offer free breakfast because we don't eat much in the morning and just need a little something to hold us over until lunch on the ship.

After reading previous posts I headed over to the Drury Inn's website. I went ahead and made a reservation there and some other places. Now to decide on which to keep.

The Drury Inn ended up being the worst price! $214.99 for one night + $35 for cruise parking. Of course free breakfast and I know we can get a taxi to/from the port for about $7pp (if I remember that correctly). Or even drop off our luggage, park at the hotel and walk to the port.

I am hoping that some of you can answer a couple of questions for the other hotels I made reservations at.

Renaissance Pere Marquette (817 Common St.): $159 includes cruise parking. Anyone have an idea of taxi price to the port? I don't think they offer free breakfast.

Renaissance Arts (700Tchoupitoulas St.): $159 includes cruise parking. Anyone have an idea of taxi price to the port? I don't think they offer free breakfast either.

Hampton Inn Convention Center (1201 Convention Center Blvd): $114 includes cruise parking & free breakfast. Anyone have an idea on cost for a taxi to the port?

Any thoughts on these?

Are there any hotels in New Orleans that offer a shuttle and cruise parking that anyone is aware of?

I'd also consider paying for parking at the terminal ($100) if anyone can recommend a nice, low cost hotel with free breakfast (w/o cruise parking).

Did you ask for the cruise special when you booked Drury? It includes free parking for cruise. You just pay for the one night you stay there and the time your on the cruise is free. When do you cruise? We have a ressie at the Drury for mid March and we got a suite for $214 + tax. There is a convention of some sort that week and the NCAA playoffs are there the week we return.

try the Marriott hotels, they have cruise packages; depending when you are going, prices vary. I am at doubletree for 99.00 on 8/20/2010. The Country Inns have a breakfast package but I don't know about their parking charges.

I used a code to receive a cruise rate/discount. They have increased the cruise parking charge to $35. I cruise April 10th. I booked a room with 2 beds at the 214 + tax rate.

Unfortunately, the Marriott didn't have any rooms available on the date I needed. I'll check doubletree and country inn. Thanks!

I wonder why the Drury is so much 4/10. I called and they told me the rate would be $118 on 4/2 plus the $35.00 for parking while we were on the cruise and that included our AARP discount. We decided to go with the Hampton and park at the port. It is more convenient for us.

The French Quarter Music Festival is going on that weekend so rooms are expensive and getting hard to come by.

I guess that would explain it. I am glad we are not going that weekend. They charge enough as it is. It sounds like the Hampton may be the best deal. I hope they are o.k. since that is where we will be staying.

Tigergenesis, I hope you find something soon because the longer you wait the prices may go up since that festival is going on then. Apparently some of the hotels prices haven't gone up yet but they probably will.

Good luck!

I went back and read your original post and noticed that you had already made reservations. You will probably not find anything less than the Hampton with or without parking for the cruise and from what I have read most of the taxi fares from around that area are about $7.00 per person to the port. Others may have a more accurate idea. At least you have a few places to pick and choose from.

Hi ,we stayed at the Renaissance Pere Marqette and it was very nice. They do not offer a free breakfast but there is a starbucks in the lobby. We didn't mind skipping breakfast so we would have plenty of room for the wonderful food in New Orleans.

We recently stayed at both the Renaissance Pere Marquette and the Drury. The Drury was nice, and the cruise special was a good deal, but the Renaissance was a nicer hotel. (And it's closer to the French Quarter.)

Drury wasn't nearly that expensive (109 for the room, 15 for the parking) for us, so if it's gone up that much, I wouldn't hesitate to book the Renaissance. You won't be disappointed.

According to their website, the Hampton Inn offers complimentary shuttle service to and from the cruise terminal.

Thank you! I must have totally missed that!

You're welcome - I currently have a reservation at the Drury Inn but started looking at the Hampton after reading about them on these boards. The cruise package rate I saw on-line was $94.00 plus $10.00 for parking, which would make it cheaper than the Drury Inn, but I'm going to call them to find out if it's a $10.00 flat rate to leave our car there for the week, or if it's $10.00 per night...

I thought it was $10per night, but I could be wrong.

For a cruise out of New Orleans, if you stay anywhere near the convention center you will be very close to the port. We always stay at Harrah's casino hotel, because I am diamond there, so I don't pay parking or room. ;):D

You're right - I called them and was told that parking would be $10.00 per night and in addition, we would have to pay for one night of valet parking which would be $27.95. The Drury Inn works out to be a better deal for us so it looks like we'll be staying there.

Hi Tiger,

You should look at the Drury again. I just tried your date of April 10 and got a rate of $79.04 using the code "NIGHT".

Click - where is says "HERE"

Then type in the code NIGHT and hit enter - scroll down and choose New Orleans - it will take you back to the reservation page and click - Check availability and you will get the $79.04 rate!

Parking is still listed at $15.00 a night and I understand they will honor that rate if you arrive with your printed confirmation. I think you can leave your car there for the whole week by paying for the first night!

TRY AGAIN! and I'll check back on you in a few! ;)

I got that rate this time, but it changes the arrival date to today's date to get that rate. Sneaky!!!

I see that now! That is sneaky!!!!

I booked at the rate of $87 for a King - street view - whirlpool for Jan. 23rd.

This was only $8 more than a king - no view or a whirlpool. :)

I guess there's not much going on right before Mardi Gras.

I lucky and happy! :D
