Kfamilycruise Posted March 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2017 Having a hard time deciding on what to do in Tortola. We've done the baths so want to do a nice beach. Not overly crowded, but not completely isolated that still has amenities. Has anyone been on either of these NCL excursions? Been to Long Bay Beach? Or know what beach the Island Beach Break goes to? We have three kids (8, 12, 14) and want them to be able to do water activities and we also want to have a clean bathroom and places to get snacks and drinks -- and of course gorgeous water and beaches. Thanks in advance for your help!
blue_water Posted March 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2017 Unfortunately that ideal beach with the gorgeous water and beaches, food and drink and other amenities, and uncrowded conditions but not completely isolated just doesn't exist. Being on a cruise ship you are part of the crowd so when the ship is in port you (and land-based visitors) have a few options - You can choose between a secluded beach with zero amenities or facilities (Long Bay, Beef Island or Smuggler's Cove), a less isolated beach with some facilities (Long Bay, West End or Brewers Bay), or a beach that offers the most amenities but is also the most crowded (CGB). I wouldn't recommend a cruise line excursion, simply because the more popular beaches are so easy to get to by taxi for $16pp round trip. But if an excursion is cheaper that may be an option. Long Bay (Beef Island) is near the airport and is a locals beach with no facilities so they must include lounges and drinks through the cruise line. The Island Beach Break goes to CGB (may be another beach if conditions warrant). For the options you require in your last sentence Cane Garden Bay would be the best choice as there are water rentals there. For something less busy (and no rentals) but still with lounges and food either Brewers or LB, West End.
Kfamilycruise Posted March 6, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted March 6, 2017 Thanks so much! I think we'll just go to CGB -- will taxis be able to hold the 5 of us? And if so, will it still be $8 pp each way? Thanks!
blue_water Posted March 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2017 Yes there will be several safari-type taxis loading up for CGB and the drivers will charge the lowest 3-person rate which is $8pp each way. Taxis will be available at CGB for your return. We like Myett's for drinks and lunch, they also rent lounges and umbrellas. There is a rental place down the beach with some water toy rentals.
