Bicycles?

We've taken our bicycles on board commercial cruise ships to use to get around at the port stops. You just roll them into your cabin with you.

Does anybody know if you can bring your bicycle onto a freighter ship with you?

I doubt if taking your bike with you would present any problems. Usually, if it fits in your cabin, and is not classed as dangerous or hazardous, you are good to go. The only problem might be some over-zealous customs officer in another country questioning the importation of a bicycle.

I realize this is a very old thread/discussion, but just in case someone else searches it, let me add a little more info about bikes on ships.

On Carnival Inspiration last year I did a behind the scenes ship tour. Down in the hold they had some bicycles. I asked the tour guide about them, and she said that they are there for the ships crew to use to explore port stops when they dock. Nice idea. So I would guess that you might be OK to take your bike with, but best to check with the ship's agent/booking agent.
