TCL Chinese Theatre, Olvera Street & Farmer's Market

Recommended Posts

I rate tourist things in minutes and hours, as in 'that's a 30 minute museum'.

Don't know about the Princess excursion but in general the Chinese is a 15 minute stop, Olvera Street and Farmers market are both hour stops, maybe a bit longer for Farmer's Market.

-At Olvera Street check out the oldest Adobe in LA. (15 minute museum.) Hopefully it will be open. It has a small info area about LA water and info about the woman who saved the street from demolition. All the restaurants are good, we like the little one, no tables, at the far end (away from the Plaza). They have amazing Horchata.

-Across the Plaza is one of the first firehouses in LA, now a '5 minute' museum. Check out the horse stalls.

-Across Alameda is Union Station. The last grand terminal built in the US. Her waiting area is beautiful. The tix booth area is now used as a banquet/dance hall. Many times they film in Union Station.

-Phillipe's is a few blocks away. Original French dip sandwiches and hot mustard. We get the lamb.

-You will also be a block from Chinatown.

FWIW- If you miss the tour bus, you can take the Flyaway Bus from Union Station to LAX. ~$7pp.

Thanks for the info. It's only a 5 hr tour so I'm sure they'll cram everything in before we return to the ship and head home to Vancouver. It will be nice to get a bit of a 'flavor' of the area anyway.
