Puerto Madryn - Taxi from Port to Trelew/Gaiman

That's going to be over an hour away, so a taxi is going to be very costly- then multiply that times 2. Frankly a poor choice, there also isn't much there anyway. IF you want to go there, then rent a car drive yourself. Pretty simple get getting to the area. BUT have specific directions with where you want to go, once there.

There isn't much in Puerto Madryn, a few museums. The main attraction with this area is Punta Tombo- which IS a major highlight.

Budget Queen, thanks for the advice, we really want to see the Welsh settlements and the heritage as we are from Wales. This is more important than the penguins, which we will see at other places.

rent a car. A taxi is a poor choice to consider, it will be very costly and difficult to arrange. Any driver from Puerto Madryn, isn't going to wait for free and do you really want to take a chance of trying to find a local cab to return you to the port?

If you aren't willing to drive, then arrange a car service, in advance with your exact locations and time frames. Pay in advance.

Do you have a recommendation for who to use for a punto tombo excursion? You recommendations are always the best!

As someone who has been to/through Puerto Madryn twice, and stayed in Gaiman twice, I would say the Welsh heritage in scant these days. Maybe a few houses in Gaiman and nothing much in Trelew (it is a more-modern Argentinean city). On my first stay in Gaiman, the elderly hostess at my B&B did speak Welsh (and Spanish but no English) and she was one of the last. The B&B changed hands in the intervening 6 years.
