Taxi cost Gatwick to Southampton??? How diffucult is the train?

Recommended Posts

Need to be at Gatwick South Terminal for a flight leaving at 11am

What chance of disembarking off Celebrity Eclipes and catching the train to Gatwick on time. It will be a Saturday.

Oh my, that's cutting it really tight

.

Forget airports' recommendations about arriving 3 hours ahead of flight time cos even Lewis Hamilton ain't gonna manage that.

Latest check-in will be on your airline's website, probably 60 minute ahead of your flight time but you could do with 90 minutes for check-in, security etc.

The 07.13 train would theoretically get you there at 09.07, just under 2 hours ahead of flight time, but I doubt you'd be off the ship in time to catch it.

The 07.33 isn't direct but gets you there at 09.37. A risk of not making the train, then a further risk it won't get you there in time to check-in.

Cheap at £14.90 and £8 respectively per person, but I'd rate the prospects of it working out as no better than 75/25.

Your saving grace is that it's a Saturday, when traffic should be mainly light, allowing you to go from ship to airport by pre-booked car. The 88 miles should take little more than 90 minutes.

But you'll need early unassisted disembarkation (haul your own bags from the cabin), that's usually around 7am, and a pre-booked car on the quayside for 07.00 to 07.15. That should get you to the airport about 08.45, giving you leeway of up to 90 minutes for delays.

Try http://www.smithsfoirairports.com or http://www.westquaycars.com who are both based at the Southampton end & frequently used by CC members

if your flight ticketing allows it, a later flight would be better.

Or a lazy day in Southampton or near Gatwick & same flight next day. The cost of a hotel would be balanced out by the difference in train/private transfer costs.
