Review of Discovery 2 inaugural B2B

Recommended Posts

Got off Discovery 2 today after 2 weeks. First week we found many things much as Linda described in her review. We too had problems with cabin cleaning (deck 2) - we were not cleaned on our middle Sunday/end of first weeks stay and eventually had to go to reception to ask for clean towels/bedding plus towels put on the floor for changing were returned to their rails on 2 occasions. We also felt that D2 would have benefitted from longer in dry dock as many jobs were incomplete.

We found the food to be good - only ate in the Islands buffet on our first lunch which was OK. For the rest of meals we ate either in 47 or Gallery 47, the latter probably being our favourite but it would be nice if they changed the menu a bit more rather than just having 2 alternating menus. Husband has a poor appetite and asked for 2 starters instead of a starter and main course each evening - this seemed to confuse some of the waiters in week one but fine by week 2; days he couldn't face lunch he became very partial to the Chicken Wings in the Snack Shack! We ate once in Kora La which we enjoyed but - especially considering the restaurant was virtually empty - found service very rushed. We thought the AI drinks package was very good and had no need whatsoever to upgrade to the premium package.

We found the entertainment hit and miss although the entertainment team were very good. We really enjoyed Homeward Bound (based on the music of Simon and Garfunkel), the Rock Show (??Hot Summer Nights) where the musicians in the backing band were amazing, Steel City (which we got both Saturday nights) and the Audience with Anton du Beke but were completely turned off by Brexfactor where we were obviously not the only people to be unimpressed as quite a few walked out half way through. The ACD Daniella has a fantastic classically trained voice and her lunchtime concert on the middle Sunday was the entertainment highlight of the whole cruise for us - such a shame that it was scheduled for 1 p.m. on changeover day so very few people were in the theatre.

By week 2 we definitely felt the crew were starting to gel and things were far happier on board and as we got to know the ship better we grew to like her more and more. Despite the odd hiccup we had a great time overall and would definitely sail on D2 again in the future.

Hi Brenda, it was lovely to meet you. I hope your friends managed to enjoy their holiday. Thank you for backing me up about the towels etc.

I was getting quite fond of the ship by the time we came home and I am glad that things were improving in the second week.
