Bermuda Day?

Hi all! My boyfriend are going on our first cruise ever in May, and it just so happens that we will be in Bermuda on May 24th, which apparently is Bermuda Day. Has anyone been on the island on this day? Are there any special activities that we should be sure to attend, or are there things that will definitely be closed? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Bermuda Day is celebrated on Monday, May 24, 2010. In summary, the government is closed, stores are closed, most restaurants are closed, buses & ferries run reduced schedules and taxis have a limited availability. I would think that with a cruise ship at the Dockyard, retail stores and restaurants there maybe open. There is a road race, a parade and other special events, including the start of the Bermuda Fitted Dinghy Racing :D season.

Thanks so much for the info! I was hoping that more stores and restaurants would be running but I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Dockyard will have a bunch of stuff open! I'm going to try and convince my boyfriend to go to the parade if we can. :)

We were in Bermuda last year on Bermuda Day. We figured we would take a ship sponsored tour of the Island but unfortunately we got caught behind their road race and followed them across the Island. Stores and the Bar were open in the Dockyard though. We just tried to get in the spirit of things and ended up having a very nice time.
