Disney Dream almost ready for float out!!!

Just happened to notice in the most recent webcam grab above that they have now connected the external exhaust vent leading from the aft smokestack for engine testing (gray stovepipe leading from funnel to ceiling).

I'm not up to snuff on all the particulars on the Disney Dream but I am guessing her forward smokestack is more or less a dummy funnel?

Correct. They successfully test-ran the five engines for the first time about a week ago.

The forward funnel on all the DCL ships are "dummies" as far as functioning as exhaust pipes. They do contain additional recreation facilities on the Magic and Wonder; the teen club "The Stack" is inside the funnel. On the Dream and Fantasy, the "Aqua Duck" water coaster tube will also pass through the funnel.

The other thing I noticed about the smokestacks is that even though they are in place they dont seem to have the black extended exhaust pipes. I havent heard anything about her having 'retractable' exhaust pipes like the Oasis of the Seas does?

Due to height restrictions in the bldg, they may not have put them on yet. They may wait until after she is at the wet dock. The foward and aft masts are missing also, as well as all of the radar and sat antennas.

Got an email from Meyerwerft confirming the floatout for Disney Dream will be at the end of October. They didnt specify the exact day. So we are roughly looking at another 10 weeks before she comes out of the builders shed.

Thanks everyone for sharing those great photos and informtion about The Dream.

I do have a question maybe someone will know.

Has anyone heard when they will start construction of The Fantasy?

It just seems to me if they are launched a year apart they should have started The Fantasy by now or very soon??

I havnt heard one word about it so far.

Thanks,

Kathy

Up in Post #7 in this thread you can see them building the new Celebrity SILHOUETTE directly in front of the Disney Dream, which when Disney Dream is floated out at the end of October, will then herself be floated backwards towards the builders shed exit door.

At that point they will again section off the drydock where they are being built and begin with the keel laying of the Disney Fantasy, probably around the end of the this year. Celebrity Silhouette (which will be taking up 3/4 of the drydock) is not due out until Fall of 2011, and construction on the Disney Fantasy cant start in earnest until Silhouette is floated out Summer 2011.

What portion of the Disney Fantasy (in the forward sectioned off 1/4 of the drydock) that has at that point been constructed will then be floated back and finished to debut probably around Spring 2012.

And the cycle begins again when Disney Fantasy is floated backwards, they will section off the drydock and start on the 5th Solstice-class ship for Celebrity due out in Fall 2012.

Here is a sequence of webcam grabs of the Disney Dream under construction beginning Mar 2nd, May 17, June 25, and Aug 16:

To give you a better illustration of the above rambling description ;), here is a picture Disney Dream being constructed in the forward sectioned off portion of the builders dock while the Celebrity Eclipse is being finished in the background (the other 3/4 of the builders dock). In the picture you can see them adding the bridge module of the Disney Dream. Once the Celebrity Eclipse was floated out, they in turn floated what potion of the Dream that had been built backwards toward the other half of the drydock to begin construction of the rest of the ship. See the above 4 webcam grabs in previous post.

They never float and move a ship, in a dry dock. Theres too much that can go wrong, and the comuters are set build the ship in the dock in a certain spot. That was from the CEO Bernad Meyer. They tried to buid a ship bow out in the dock and the computer that they use couldnt handle it. The Magic was the exception. Theres to much that can go wrong. The Dry dock the Dream is in, is big enough for 1 complete ship, and a second partial. What they did, was after the Eclipse was loated out, they removed the temp gate, and built the aft section of the Dream. If they moved her, her stern would be out in the river somewhere. They put the temp gate in front of the Dream and started the Silouhette. When the Dream is gone, theyll do the same thing, and continue the Silouhette horizontally. There should be a little bit of room in front of the Silohette, so that after a certain point, the Fantasy will have her keel laying.Itll most likely be a foward block that gets laid.

There was a first steel cutting not long ago, for the Fantasy. Her scroll was was cut. It was very hush hush, compared to the Dreams. Ill try and find the link. Based on the past delivery schedule of MW, with 9 months bewtween the Dream and the Eclipse, and Silouhette is due in service for her maiden in July, 2011, 9 months (sound familiar to anyone?) would put the Fantasy around April of 2012.

Not that I doubt your sources but I dont believe that is entirely correct based on actual images from inside the builders dock.

After Eclipse was floated out the new Disney Dream's stern section that would eventually contain the engines was floated in from outside. In the 4-panel webcam grabs I posted you can see (in the first image) the aft stern section that has been floated in and a gap between it and the rest of the ship. In the second panel more amidships sections (with funnel) is added, and in the third panel she is floating in water with a cofferdam on the unfinished bow, the whole thing having now been floated back to the exit doors. The fourth panel shows the dock emptied of water and the bow section complete.

BuildAndSlide.JPG

In this sequence on Solstice you can see her being built in the forward partitioned section, then moved backwards to be mated with an aft section that was floated in.

Solstice11.JPG

In this sequence of webcam grabs from a fixed camera notice in the first picture the substantial gap between the stern of the Dream and the back exit door, and in the second set of pictures that she has been floated back completely closing that gap and that you can now see her unfinished bow.

Before:

The floatback sequence:

And in this picture the forward section of the Dream being constructed with the Eclipse taking up the entire rest of the drydock. The Disney Dream would have had to have been floated back to clear the forward partitioned section that she was being constructed in order to begin construction on Silhouette:

And here is the Dream now behind the partitioned section so that Silhouette can begin:

I believe THIS IS THE THREAD you're referring to.

I'm a little confused by this. The Magic wasn't built by MeyerWerft; it was built by Fincantieri in Italy. And she (and Wonder) were built in two different shipyards about 100 miles apart. The forward half was built in one yard, and the aft half in the other. The two halves were later joined together.

I'm still curious about the Fantasy steel cutting. There is no room for the Fantasy to have part of her steel put down until SILHOUETTE is almost finished construction, which will be in around 6-12 months time (guess).

Take a look at Post #15 above and specifically the 2nd set of pictures showing the beginning construction of the Solstice. If you look very closely you can see it is being built *forward* of the sectioned off portion of the builders dry-dock. In the picture next to it the portion of Solstice that was already constructed has been now moved backwards towards the main portion of the builders dry-dock. This clears that's forward section for new construction to begin.

Now look at this picture showing what has already been constructed on Silhouette:

http://www.meyerwerft-fotos.de/data/pressefotos/218/4912.jpg

Once Disney Dream is floated out in late October, they will do the same as above: float backwards this towering portion of Silhouette, replace the partition in the builders dry-dock, and have that now emptied forward portion available for the new Disney Fantasy keel laying. Construction on Silhouette will continue both horizontally (laying down and connecting more hull blocks) as well as vertically (stacking more hull and superstructure blocks). Look at the 5th picture in Post 15: see how Eclipse is under construction at the *exact same time* as the Disney Dream? Eclipse is in the larger, main portion of the builders dry-dock, Disney Dream in the smaller partitioned *(forward portion) of that same dry-dock.

Steel cutting is done in a separate building and/or completely separate facility depending on what portion is being cut. Plasma cutters take large steel plates that are submerged in a tank of water and begin cutting them into smaller pieces that will be part of the jigsaw puzzle, later put together to make a single portion (or module) of the ship. Look at any of the pictures in Post #15 and alongside the ships under construction you can see completed modules staged in preparation for placement into the dry-dock as the ship(s) progress through their construction.

For the first 'ceremonial' steel cutting it is sometimes a very small part or decorative part of the ship, for instance scroll work on the bow of the ship. Here is the first steel cut for Disney Dream:

http://www.cruisenewsdaily.com/nf90302.html

And the keel laying of the Disney Dream, as you can see it is a very small portion of the ship, and done in the forward sectioned off part of the dry-dock:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2W3tIWDTJg

Here is the bow and bulbous bow of the Disney Dream that have been built and constructed awaiting delivery to the builders shed and placement. Note that the 'first steel cut' for the Disney Dream was actually part of the scroll work for the bow:

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/05/new-construction-photos-of-the-disney-dream-bow/

Look at some of these pictures and you will see the construction and float-out of the last couple of ships built at MeyerWerft.

Woah! :D

Don't look now, but your picture has changed from the Dream to Celebrity Silhouette .

Came across a few more interesting pix of one of Dream's hull sections being towed during early stage of construction. Note the stabilizer "pocket".

When the 'Live' image is linked to a thread its at the mercy of whichever way the camera is pointed, sometimes at the ships, sometimes outdoors.

The 'Live' camera view was switched over to the Celebrity Silhouette because she got 'taller' last night with the addition of her top deck in this module section. They may still move the camera back onto the Disney Dream later on.....
