just back from the voyager

Recommended Posts

hi everyone,

we just returned from a great week on the voyager. :) we have been on other rccl ships, but this was our first voyager class ship...what a treat!

my kids (ages 4,7 and 10) just loved adventure ocean. i can't say enough good things about it! and, how nice it was for my dh and i to have a little alone time on vacation!

we thought the food quality had improved overall, but the service wasn't quite as good as other cruises. (it may have just been our waiter and room attendant.) don't get me wrong, the service wasn't bad, just not as attentive as other ships.

we spent alot of time comparing it to the disney cruise (that we had loved so much) and decided that... there were more adult activities for us to enjoy on voyager, (we missed the casino on the disney ship) but not as many family activites on voyager, the kids liked the kids program just as much if not better, and the disney service was just outstanding. but, for the money, it would be hard for me to spend twice as much to do disney again.

the kids are already asking when they can go back! i'd be happy to answer any questions!:)

Did you change time zones at all? If so, How did your ship handle the change? Did the ship change their clock so ship time was port time or did you stay on the same time every day. I can't seem to get a clear answer on this. Yours was the first cruise since we changed to Daylight savings time so hopefully you could help with this. Thanks!

Which itinerary did you do? Western or Eastern? If you did Western, I would be curious as to what shore excursions you did. We have a 7 year old and are travelling to the Western Caribbean in June. Did you go to Labadee? How was the water park?

I am a HUGE Disney fan, but cannot justify the cost of doing the Disney Cruise. You could do two Voyager trips (back to back) for the cost of Disney.

Thanks!

we did the eastern route. labadee is just beautiful, we had a great day there. we didn't do the water park. it looked like fun, but i guess it is $15 per person for only an hour. ( i'm not sure if that is right?) that seems like too much to me for what was there.

I am glad you all had such a good time. We will be doing the Explorer in December and it will be the first time for my three children who will be 5, 7 & 11. Since their ages are so similar I am very interested in what you did in ports.

We have almost the same itinerary as you. What did you do in Nassau, St. Thomas and San Juan? Did you take the kids off the ship at all ports?

What time did they stay in the kids club to? What about the 5 year old?

Thank you so much for any info.

we left the kids on the ship in st. thomas. we had planned on taking them to the beach, but they really wanted to go to adventure ocean. we enjoyed three hours alone on the beach...bliss!:) we went to secret harbour. i would highly recommend it. we basically had the place to ourselves. we only paid $5 each for chairs and it was great. we heard that all the other beaches were packed that day (especially maegans bay). in nassau, we wanted to take them to the atlantis, but didn't feel like we had enough time. it was our first morning and we weren't in the mood to rush them. so they played on the ship with dad and i went into the straw market for about an hour. in san juan, we took the older two to shop for about an hour. i really wanted them to see the city and they had brought their allowance and had fun shopping. it was a long walk and very hot, so i was glad we had left our 4 year old in adventure ocean. she would have not enjoyed it at all. luckily, our kids just loved the club.

Needinsomesun,

Thanks for your reply. It is a great relief to hear that your kids loved AO so much.

What did you do at night? Did you and DH ever have a chance to go out? Were the kids in AO or did you have any babysitters?

hi again,

yes, we went out almost every night. we had the kids nap every afternoon around 4:00 until dinner. they were always worn out and glad to lay down. we took them to dinner and then to ao to play. we did go to portofinos one night, we let them have room service. also, on the formal nights the kids can eat at johnnie rockets so you can alone. also, dinners are long. (about 2 hours) it is a long time for them to sit still. after the first night we brought coloring books and crayons and that worked out great.

my dh and i mainly went to the casino at night. we love to play blackjack and met the greatest people on the first night and met up with them every night at the same table. we did go to the platters and the love and marriage game show and we took the kids to the ice show. (which we all really enjoyed)
