Grandeur Arrival times in Miami this summer

Recommended Posts

Here's a task that this board is well suited to take on, and many of us will be interested in the results. Staring with July 7th, Grandeur's 9-day itinerary switched from Grand Bahama to Miami for the first stop on the Sunday after sailing. This thread noted that she was 3 hours late arriving in Miami for the first run of that new itinerary.

I would like to know if this was a one time problem or if it's a schedule deficiency with the new itinerary.

If you are sailing on any of the Grandeur 9-day cruises this summer, and willing to help with this research project, please remember your time of arrival in Miami and come back and quote the latest post with an updated row for your sail date. Please keep the CODE tags so the spacing is preserved.

Thanks! Here is the first one:

we were on the 7/7 sailing on the granduer. the weather between balitmore and miami was the reason we were late. the captain explained that the currents were to strong for the ship to maintain the 20 knots needed to be on time. an extra hour was added to our port time.

I was also on that 7/7 sailing, and even though we docked at 4PM, most of the passengers didn't start to get off until 5PM! Took an hour to clear the ship, and start to disembark...it was CRAZY!

Overall, we only had about 3 hours in Miami, but the Captain made it up to us in Cozumel....we stayed until 9:30PM there....YEA!

Take care,

Jaime

Wow that is silly. I mean, yeah, I know, I know, they were "outside the United States" but really... it's not like you can "secretly" take a cruise ship to a foreign country without anyone knowing about it.

P.S. Hey, we have the same tickerfactory countdown graphic! :) (Except even though you just got back, you are still going on another cruise before me!)

the most senseless thing on the grandeur is clearing immigration in port canaveral at 7am. it was very unorganized, all 2000 passengers where lined up in the halls and stairways waiting to be cleared. even if you didn't get off the ship you had to be checked.

We were lucky going through immigration......we had a tour to Universal at 7:45 booked, and they grabbed us out of line on deck 3, and escorted us to the front....YEA!

Seriously...the line went from the theater, the length of the ship, and down two decks!! I'm glad I didn't have to wait in it!

Take care,

Jaime

LOVE your signature, but I just had to change mine to a countdown now! I have to see those minutes and days ticking away!

Off to make final payment on the next cruise:D .

Even with all of the crazy stuff....I LOVE the ship itself. It was gorgeus, the food was delicious, and the staff some of the friendliest I've ever encountered!

Now if they could just take care of those late arrivals, and lines....YIKES!

Take Care,

Jaime

Immigration is the morning you dock at Pt. Canaveral....Customs is when you get off the ship at final debarkation in Baltimore;) .

With only two stops in Mexico, not much to declare, very painless!

Jaime

Here it is 3PM, and if you zoom out to the ocean, you can see it in the far distance. By this time two weeks ago, we were at the opening of the port....with just the cruise up the cut.

I'm placing a bet on a 5PM arrival this Sunday! Even after they dock, it's going to take 30-45 minutes to clear the ship.

I feel sorry for the passengers this week!

Take care,

Jaime

I did that too and was thinking that might be her. Still looks pretty far away. Each time I reload the page it looks more like her. What did we ever do before the internet? ;)

Here's what I'm looking at.

We left at 9PM last time the GOS visited Miami. It really didn't make any difference though...the last shuttles from S. Beach, and Bayside ran at 8PM, so everyone was back onboard by 8:15.

I thought the late seating at dinner that night would be empty, but only a few people were missing.

They need to get their act together on this Miami stop, or just drop it altogether for another sea day (most people on our cruise were hoping it would at least get changed to Coco Cay!) Miami could be a nice port of call, but it's not worth getting off the ship when you can't disembark until 5PM, and have to be back by 8PM. (LOTS of people went to the shore excurison desk, and were given refunds.)

Take Care,

Jaime

While just a complete guess, I believe you only need to be cleared through immigration in Miami because the ship has spent a day "at sea", and that you do not need to clear immigration in the next port of call, its possible that they stop there to give you more time at Key West, or maybe they can't do immigration at key west.

This could be complete rubbish, so my appologies if it is.

Well, I'm sitting at my computer, still rocking to the waves, missing the Grandeur. I'm thinking that they are going to at least change the scheduled arrival time for Miami because the cruise compass listed the arrival at 3:00pm. Captain Rob (what a funny guy) said that there were strong head winds coming down the coast that caused the delay in getting into port (~4:00 vs. 3:00). We didn't get off in Miami, and since we had the late seating, I'm not sure when we started to leave port.

We did have fun with the Freedom though! When they left port, we played dueling horns! I think the Grandeur won. Our horn seemed to be MUCH louder as they took turns honking at each other!:D

Yes - going through immigration was a pain - we had to be in line at 6:50 according to the schedule. As others stated, the line went the length of the ship, but did go fast.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions! We had a GREAT cruise!

Socccermomkat - We're leaving on 8/18! Can't wait! Did your kids enjoy OA? (I ask every time...since we're traveling with 4 of them). How was the food? Did the kids have enough selection? (mine aren't particularly adventuresome eaters). Did you have new mattresses? (we're in 2 insides on deck 3).

Thanks!

TP - I posted info on the GOS 7/21 meet & mingle regarding Miami. Here it is again. We arrived after 4:00 PM. Too late to be doing some of the tours and get back onboard by 8:30. Many of us "saw" Miami from the Viking Crown Lounge. I kept hearing about the weather. One of the ship's company mentioned a "miscalculation". ??? Also, be prepared for Costa Maya. When we arrived at the port, were expecting to see a nice facility for the cruise ship passengers, but were disappointed to discover there wasn't any water in the large saltwater pool. It was a large cement nothing. There was not much to do without the pool, except more Diamonds Int'l stores and local souveirs. Didn't have the folk show at 10:30 (which was posted). Couldn't use the beach facility at the small town either according to the cabbie - strong currents from the storm the evening before. Hope your visit to Costa Maya is better. Maybe book a tour to the ruins??? in Costa Maya and use Cozumel as your beach day and shopping in San Miguel in the evening. No complaints about the ship - even tho it is 10 years old and the mattresses show it. The crew is great.

Thanks atm, yep, I saw your other post too! I've seen Tulum, and that takes so long we didn't see any of Cozumel at all, so I am looking forward to seeing other things there this time. Thanks for the info!
