Cruise/Sailing Related Wedding/Love Songs?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to compile a list of love songs for my wedding that could somehow related to sailing/cruising, even if it's just a few lyrics and not the whole song, and even if they only mention water or the ocean. Here's what I have so far...

1) Come Away With Me-Norah Jones

2) Sail Away- David Gray

3) Spirit on the Water- Bob Dylan

4) Wildflowers- Tom Petty

Does anyone else have any ideas? If so, please post!!

I know this is soo off topic but has anyone seen the movie made in manhattan? There's a song in that movie (I really can't remember where it is in the movie) but I think it's Norah Jones? I love that song but have no idea what it is... I could be waay off. I think they play during the love scene. Could someone try to tell me the name of it...

I plan on making a CD for all my sailing guests with cruise-themed music to go with their welcome & info letter. These are what I've compiled so far-

THE MATING GAME- BITTER SWEET- this song is in the Korbel NYE commercial

TIDE IS HIGH- BLONDIE

OCEAN BLUE- ABC

TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE- EDDIE MONEY

VACATION- GO GO’S

COME AWAY WITH ME- NORA JONES

SAIL AWAY- STYX

SAILING - CHRISTOPHER CROSS

WIDE, WIDE SEA- WHEN IN ROME

SAIL AWAY- ENYA

CRUISIN’ TOGETHER- SMOKEY ROBINSON

DON’T ROCK THE BOAT- HUES CORPORATION

S.O.S.- ABC

FANTASTIC VOYAGE- LAKESIDE

There's also a song from Supertramp called "Downstream" which I will be quoting in our programs:

Took a boat Sunday, down by the sea

It just felt so nice, you and me

We didn't have a problem or a care

And all around was silence, everywhere

You are the reason I was born

Be with you through all seasons

I'll always hear you when you call

We'll keep the love light shining

Through each night and day

A lonely life behind me

Oh what a change you've made

So down here on the ocean we will stay

Went through a lot of changes

Turned a lot of pages

When I took a boat Sunday

To know you as I know you now

That is all I need

And we will get along somehow

If we both believe

So down here on the ocean we will stay

Went through a lot of changes

Turned a lot of pages

When I took a boat Sunday

It works, since we're getting married on Sunday. :)

My husband and I danced our first dance to "Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. It's a gorgeous love song about being lucky to be in love with your best friend. It also happens to mention water and the ocean! Everyone at our wedding thought it was absolutely perfect.

Maybe "Into the Mystic"- Van Morrison... This may sound weird but they play it during the first dance in American Wedding (maybe not the classiest of movies but a really lovely song nonetheless)

And I google searched "Maid in Manhattan soundtrack"... the only Norah Jones song that is listed is "Come Away With Me"... another really pretty song.

The other song I absolutely love and am trying to figure out a way to make it work is "The Water Is Wide." Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, and the Indigo Girls do a version that is beautiful. The song is a little slow though, and the traditional verses are kind of depressing! I am thinking about using these two verses in a program or something.

"There is a ship that sails the sea

She's loaded deep as deep can be

But not as deep as the love I'm in

I know not if I sink or swim

The water is wide, I can't cross over

And neither have I wings to fly

Build me a boat that can carry two

and both shall row, my love and I."
