  1. B2B Mar/Apr cancelled and then B2B May cancelled and now wondering about B2B2B Aug cruises. I'm having major cruise withdrawals!!! And my soaps are running out of episodes...ugh! Night time tv is even worse since on summer schedule unless you're into reality shows. And now it's getting hotter than hell here so outdoor activities (golfing/walking/hiking/etc.) will be very limited. Don't want to sound snobbish but this royally messed up our plans to be 'Z' at the end of the year. I totally understand the situation and know it's very serious. I hate reading naysayers that the cruise lines are going to crash and burn!!! I pray they, along with the many businesses, small and large, and all families get past this and are stronger than before! We will survive!!! Okay, start Gloria Gaynor's version now...lol!

A travel agency would have no reason to opt out.

Apparently the big box TA has one. They DO NOT participate nor is it allowed for you to participate since they don't. I've been there done that. You CANNOT submit a move up request on your reservation if you are booked with them. You'll receive a message saying such.  The big box TA's rationale is that they don't have the personnel to monitor their 'junk/spam/generic' emails where the offer gets sent to.   We no longer use them, especially since they give shop cards only and no longer give OBC for Celebrity cruises.

Thanks for letting us know RE Feb 22,2021 cruise.  We haven’t got the letter yet.  We also don’t like the replacement cruises but find an Apex cruise interesting.  Does anyone know if we book this Apex cruise on board within the next 2 wks;  can our TA then transfer the $200 from the cancelled cruise as well as the on board booking $.  ?

I don't think that would work since you are booked with a TA. The TA would 'transfer' the Feb 22, 2021 cruise to your chosen Apex cruise. The new Apex cruise would receive the $200 compensation OBC but no onboard sales OBC. It was booked by your TA and not booked onboard by you. BUT if your Feb 22, 2021was originally booked onboard, then yes, the onboard sales OBC would transfer also.

Celebrity informed me we have until 2/13/2021 to make a decision on a replacement cruise and receive the $200 compensation.

    Hi Phil

I have received a phone call and email today from Celebrity regarding you 07JAN2021 sailing.

Celebrity is cancelling this sailing due to the sailing/ship being chartered.  Below are your options from Celebrity.

Guests on the affected sailing who are interested in similar itineraries can be rebooked in like accommodations at the protected/lowest available rate on these suggested sailings:

    Celebrity Infinity:
    4-Night Bahamas Cruise departing February 18, 2021
5-Night Labadee & Puerto Rico Cruise departing March 6, 2021
    4-Night Bahamas Cruise departing March 11, 2021
5-Night Labadee & Puerto Rico Cruise departing March 15, 2021

Clients can rebook on any Celebrity vacation they choose. Those who do rebook with Celebrity will receive an onboard credit of $200 per standard stateroom and $400 per suite

Brand promotions will be protected for named and deposited bookings only.

Air reimbursement is not being offered.

A full refund for amounts paid will be processed to the original form of payment; however, if a guest chooses not to rebook, the above offer of compensation is no longer valid.

We have until Wednesday, February 5, 2020 to let Celebrity know what you would like to do.

This is upsetting. This 4 night cruise was offered a 5 night replacement cruise  and $400 OBC for suites yet our 5 night cruise was offered a 4 night replacement cruise and only $200 OBC...wth????

When were you notified?  I am waiting to be notified on our March 22, 2021 cruise.  I have emailed my PVP but she said she has not heard anything yet.  Thank you.  I am sorry the alternate dates didn't work for you.  That is disappointing especially since you were on a B2B.

Friends we were sailing with received an email yesterday. I called Celebrity and asked why I didn't receive one and was told they just started calling people last night and hadn't gotten to me yet. It's quite disappointing. The B2B would be only 9 nights not 10 that we had. We've been affected by charter situations numerous times and I can honestly say this one has been the most disappointing when it comes to options.

  6. Friends we were sailing with were notified last night that these have indeed been chartered and were given only 3 choices of replacement cruises and all 3 are in March 2021- March 6th, March 11th and March 15th. So to do a back to back you lose 1 night of sailing since the March 11th cruise is only 4 nights.  Also, compensation is $200 for suites, not $400. Have never been given only 3 choices in prior charter situations and never have all the choices been in the same month. We already have a cruise booked for March 2021 so none of the replacement cruises are an option for us. 😡

We were on the Jan 4 Infinity cruise which was a rebook, as we booked a March 2020 cruise which got cancelled.   Similar to you, we were notified in October/November 2018 of the change.

I talked to the concierge about this and he said this happens quite a bit especially on Infinity during March through April.  He said that charters take the ship and booked passengers are bumped.    He also told me that if you go on a charter, you book through the charter company and you do not get Captains Club points.

I am booked on a March 2021 cruise and am expecting a note any day that I have been bumped.   Not sure why it is taking so long this year.

There is another thread started on this yesterday.  Hopefully we will hear soon.

I read the thread on the Infinity 1/7/21 charter and seems they were just recently notified. Hopefully Celebrity will let us know in the next few weeks.  It will be interesting to see the list of 'replacement' cruises and if it's possible for another back to back.

  8. Anyone on these sailings been notified that the ship has been chartered? Both sailings disappeared from Celeb's website months ago (easily 6 months ago) and when asked why, was told they were put back into inventory maintenance. One rep said this could mean they're considering a charter. So I've been googling the various charters and last week found info on the Ultimate Disco cruise website that their 2021 cruise will be on the Infinity departing 2/22/21.

We've had cruises chartered in the past and were notified (thankfully) well in advance. Our March 2020 Infinity cruises were cancelled due to charters and we were notified in October/November 2018 timeframe.

True, but IMO it sounds like a poor excuse.  As far as I know the TA does not have any responsibility for the actual bidding or acceptance.  I did notice that my TA was copied on the initial Move Up bidding offer, but not on the e mail acknowledging that Celebrity received my bid.

You bring up a good point as to if the TA has to be involved if and when  you win a bid.  I did not win on my two opportunities, so I do not know.

I am just curious as to why you keep using this TA even though they do not participate.  Are you unable to find a TA that offers the same or better deal?  I would guess that most people do not even know they are not eligible for the Move Up bidding.

Your guess is correct. I had no idea until recent they did not participate nor that I was ineligible because they did not participate. I'm now in the dilemma of whether I  can move our future cruises to a different TA because of this. I feel I'm being penalized and I imho feel too it's a poor excuse.  We most always book onboard and have been assigning the cruises to this big box agency but no more, especially since they no longer provide OBC on Celebrity cruises and provide a cash card instead.

What is the earliest anyone’s bid was accepted? Trying to decide if I should bid on an Aqua cabin now, have balcony on deck 7 which I’m happy with (wanting to try Blu) or wait to see if price goes down. There are many Aqua cabins available. We are on the Summit 6/16/19 sailing.

Ours was accepted 30 days prior.

Here's a link to another thread with other moveup experiences and info:

No, the Move Up bidding does not involve the TA.

Some of the discussion here relate to the fact that a particular big box  wholesaler will not allow Celebrity  to offer their clients a Move Up bidding offer. Probably a contact stipulation?

I recently booked a cruise through a TA, not the big box one I typically use. I received a MoveUp offer in an email and the email cc'd my TA.  The email address they used for my TA was their 'general' email and not the specific email address for my individual travel consultant.

When my friend questioned the big box wholesaler as to why they do not participate, the answer was because the email offer is sent to their general email and they cannot monitor that address sufficiently to handle all the emails.  My guess is they opted out of the program because of this, thus making clients ineligible.  I know for a fact I have not received any offer for a MoveUp on cruises I've booked with this big box wholesaler.

Last time we bid on a RS (this past Feb) we called Celebrity and were told we would retain current Perks plus get any benefits the suite included (laundry, unlimited specialty dining, bar set up, etc) CC points would given based on booked category as Cruise a holic said. And totally agree with chemmo, hard to go back! We have gone back since we’re only willing to spend so much on a cruise and haven’t found the great deal we got on a RS a year ago but we keep trying to go back to a veranda and always end up upgrading to at least a SS! Enjoy the Royal Suite. If you are willing to share what was your bid?

1500ea was the maximum bid which is what we bid; the minimum was $500ea.  We figured this might be our only chance to ever sail in a royal suite as they are so pricey.  We have been spoiled on the sky suites but figured since we got a great deal on a suite gty, why not try?  We are excited to infinity and beyond, for sure!  :-)  :-)  :-)

Thanks, Luvcrusn.  I tried that, and it still does not work for me.  So maybe participation by clients of the Big Box is really disabled.  I have sent an email to the move up program, we will see if they respond.

    Tom & Judy

Curious if you've received a response yet.  A friend of mine asked one of their reps why they do not participate.  Their reply is because it gets sent to their 'general' email account and they cannot monitor that account sufficiently to handle all of the emails.  Tacky excuse imho!

  14. We placed a MoveUp bid on a royal suite from an S1 Sky suite which was accepted.  We have no promotion associated with our cruise.  Has anyone actually received the benefits that come with the royal suite after moving up on a MoveUp offer?  I've read conflicting info as to what you will/will not receive.

CELEBRITY MOVE UP TRACKER (effective April 19, 2019; but can back-fill data, if available)

    • Ship:  Summit
    • Length of Cruise: 11 nts
    • Cruise Sail Date:  6/5/19
    • Date email offer received:  4/26/19
    • Captain’s Club Tier [“PREVIEW” = first Celebrity Cruise]:  Elite+
    • Booked through Celebrity Direct OR via TA:  TA
    • Current Cabin: S1 #6125
    • Bid?  Yes/No:  Yes

    If YES -  Bidding Details:

    • Cabin Category:  RS
    • Bid Offer: $1500pp
    • Notification Date:  5/6/19
    • Accepted / Rejected: Accepted

    General Comments (offer details, etc.)

MoveUp minimum offer was CS $300pp; RS $500pp; PH $900pp.  Maximum bid was $1500pp for the RS & $1500pp for the PH. Don't recall what the max was for the CS.  Bid on the RS and on the PH and bid the max on each since we booked the original cabin on a gty for only $2279pp.  Figured this would be our only shot at a royal suite because the regular prices were out of our reach. The going price for the RS was over $6100pp.

  15. I made this chart right after the new program started. On Royal a passenger can reach Diamond(=Elite) after 12 7 night cruises in an inside cabin. On Celebrity 21 7 night cruises are required..... I think....

    enhance

You are correct. Celebrity gives 2pts per night for inside, so 300 pts divided by 2 = 150 nts divided by 7 nts = 21 cruises with 3 pts still needed to meet the 300 pts. It takes 14 seven night cruises with 6 pts still needed if one sails in a veranda (3 pts per night).

Royal gives 1pt per night, so 80pts divided by 7nts = 11 cruises with 3 pts still needed to meet the 80 pts.

We just completed a cruise on RCCL and there were 700+ Diamond and above members. And there more than twice the number of Pinnacles onboard than the number of Zeniths we've ever experienced onboard Celebrity.

If the reciprocity changes, Celebrity will definitely need a larger venue than Michaels.

  16. What was the problem with Cpt. George? We've sailed with him previously and he was amazing.

Probably too early to know for sure who'll be your captain for Sept. 2019 but there's a thread "Who's On Board: Officers, Staff..." that contains a chart listing the officers, etc. and is updated as cruisers inform who's onboard. Check closer to your sail date. The link is:

    https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2522361

  17. I've read Celebrity is increasing their prices but I don't know the amount. It used to be $11.80 per day to upgrade. That times 21 would be $249.40 so it might be a better alternative to just pay the price difference on a per drink basis.

  18. We are leaving monday the 14th & my wife would like to know if she can get a DIRTY MARTINI & if she can what bar?? We have the CLASSIC PKG.

    george35

Any bar except the Martini Bar, provided the vidka you ask for is included in your classic package, should allow you a dirty martini in the 'smaller' martini glass. I think you can get Smirnoff or Absolut. There may be a few other choices of vodka but I don't what they are. Just ask the server or bartender.
