  1. Mmmm food ... your all making me hungry now.

Breakfast I don’t really do but I’ve been known to partake in the odd sticky bun with my morning coffee. Also there are those yoghurt and granola sundae glasses made up which are very nice .

Lunch is always a salad bowl. Feta cheese, lettuces, cucumber, corn, peppers, mandarin segments and a teeny amount of dressing. I’m also a fan of the pre-made sandwiches any will eat any of the vegetarian ones ... sometimes two :D

  2. That is a positive change IMO

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Funny I see it the opposite way ... At least in Sarande you can walk around without constantly being harassed. Kusadasi however is one of only two ports where I’ve been eager to get back on the ship !

  3. I think it is a combination of two things:

    (1) From what I've heard (and believe myself), the menu is absolutely NOT interesting at all on the final night.

    (2) Although many people do make it a point to give their tips on the next to the last night if they are not dining in the MDR, MANY people do not have the nerve to dine there and stiff the waitstaff (they do have SOME PART of a conscience? Not enough to give a little something extra to their servers but just enough to know that they shouldn't show their face and then skip out?) so they dine elsewhere.

One time I tipped our servers on the second to last night and said "I just wanted you to know that we won't be here on the last night but it isn't because we didn't want to tip you" and he looked surprised and said "You know about that?!", so it definitely is "a thing".

It's lovely to hear that many people do what we do ..... tip on the second to last night and then dine elsewhere on the last night.

Your second point isn't really relevant anymore given that our tips are added to our account anyway ...

  4. Our upcoming cruise will be our 20th, but 3d on H.A.L. We booked in April, and in November shortly after final payment was charged to my credit card, saw the advertised price drop by about $500. in total for the two of us. Same cruise dates, same stateroom class. Despite communicating several times with H.A.L. they absolutely refused to offer even a small compensatory on board credit. Their response amounted to: "We don't have to do anything for you, the cruise is sold out." This cruise will be the last on that line.

I'm sorry but I think your complaint is pretty unreasonable. so what if the price drops ...HAL owes you nothing. If I buy a coat from a store and then it's reduced at a later date I can't go back for a refund

  5. Either get the appropriate currency in advance or use an ATM ...it is a massive inconvenience to burden the local tourist economy with your USD not to mention being blatantly disrespectful. If I came to your country and wanted to use my GBP's just to save myself time or a slight inconvenience how would you feel about me ? ..... I see this question time and time again and it really gets to me ...I live in a city frequented by cruise ships and I'm so tired of saying "no, we don't accept Euro's and no, we don't accept dollars " ...

  6. I picked Mindfulness just because it was mentioned as an "O" activity and I would do that one just because it was offered.

I'd love TED or TEDx talks (going to one this week)! Lonely Planet might be a little "lowbrow" for the HAL set - it may still be seen as that travel book that the hippy and young 20-something and "Europe at $40/day" set uses ;)

Are you sure your not confusing lonely planet and rough guides ? I grew out of rough guides pretty quickly but lonely planet magazine is a great source of information ...they aren't the largest travel publisher in the world for nothing.

  7. I'd love to see more than one partnership opportunity .... There are many people in to the whole "mindfulness " thing without the Oprah tag, but there ought to be other things on offer relating to travel, geography, history etc ... I thought the BBC Earth thing was going to go further than it did, and I'd love to see something like TED talks on a ship. Or even links with Lonely Planet maybe ???

    It's nice to dream ...;)

  8. There are vegan dishes on the PG menu. Entrees include Baked Stuffed Eggplant, Wild Mushroom Ravioli and Roasted Pumpkin Risotto.

I would not recommend that you order from the MDR and request that it be served in the PG. The quality and quantity of the items served at the PG surpasses that served in the MDR. The MDR menu is best served in the MDR or in your cabin via room service.

The dishes you mention are not vegan they are vegetarian. All of them contain cheese, butter or eggs

  9. HAHA! That has not, to date, happened to me but would surely be funny if it were to. :')

It has happened to my husband on numerous occasions ... Young and of Asian origin equals crew in some passengers and even port staff eyes. In Rotterdam he was herded into the crew checking in line :') ...we just laugh it off, especially when we sail with our Filipino friends and the whole situation gets even crazier.
